Jeremiah 33:12 “Thus says YHWH of hosts: ‘In this place which is desolate, without man and without beast, and in all its cities, there shall again be a dwelling place of shepherds causing their flocks to lie down.

The Hebrew word Ra’a H7462 – rāʿâ, means to feed and take care of, a shepherd, sometimes translated as pastor or even ruler. The word has more to do with feeding and taking care off, and not ruling over. To tend to, even teach. Isaiah and especially Jeremiah prophecy about shepherds a lot!

The theme of shepherds are from the beginning of Scripture till the end. We first learn in Genesis 4:2 that Cain was “a keeper H7462 (shepherd) of the sheep”. Abraham was a shepherd, Moses looked after sheep when YHWH called him, and David was a shepherd, to just name a few..

Yeshua is prophesied as the Shepherd, to take care of the flock that follows Him. But He is not just the Shepherd, but the little Lamb too. Yeshua explains in John 10:11, “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep“. David also explained how he would give his life to protect his sheep, and Yeshua explained many times that He didn’t just come to lead, but to take care, to wash feet, to be the servant, to take the beating. Ultimately we read in Revelation 5:12, “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain”

In many of Isaiah and Jeremiah’s prophecies, they talk about the prophets and the shepherds. So there are two, the prophets come to warn and the shepherds come to teach, feed and take care. For both these, Yeshua gives this warning, in Matthew 7:15: “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves”.

Jeremiah 33:17-18 “For thus says YHWH: ‘David shall never lack a man to sit on the throne of the house of Israel; nor shall the priests, the Levites, lack a man to offer burnt offerings before Me, to kindle grain offerings, and to sacrifice continually. ”

Yeshua the King, is prophesied in Jeremiah 23:5 “Behold, the days are coming,” says YHWH, “That I will raise to David a Branch of righteousness; A King shall reign and prosper,
And execute judgment and righteousness in the earth.” When Yeshua was born, the wise man came looking for him, in Matthew 2:2, “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews?”. When Yeshua was crucified, they made an inscription above His head, we read in Matthew 27:37, “YESHUA OF NAZARETH, THE KING OF THE JEWS“. In Revelation 19:16we read that Yeshua is described with the title, “On his robe and on his thigh he has a name written, ‘KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS'”

Yeshua the High Priest, as prophesied in Zechariah 6:13 “Yes, it is He who will build the temple of YHWH, and He who will bear the honor and sit and rule on His throne. Thus, He will be a priest on His throne, and the counsel of peace will be between the two offices.”. And in Psalm 110:4 “YHWH has sworn and will not change His mind, “You are a priest forever According to the order of Melchizedek.”
