Shiloh
Joshua 19:51 “These were the inheritances which El‛azar the priest, and Yehoshua son of Nun, and the heads of the fathers of the tribes of the children of Yisra’ĕl divided as an inheritance by lot in Shiloh before YHWH, at the door of the Tent of Meeting. “
The Hebrew word for SHILOH is H7887 – šîlô, meaning “place of rest“, a city in Ephraim and temporary home of the Ark of the Covenant and the Tabernacle, the place where Samuel grew up. The next root word for SILO is H7886 – šîlô, meaning “tranquility“, and the next root word is H7951 – šālâ, meaning “to be at rest, prosper, be quiet, be at ease“.
Shiloh refers to both a physical location and a person. As a location, Shiloh was a significant religious site in ancient Israel, where the Tabernacle and the Ark of the Covenant were once kept. The second root word SILO H7886 is only mentioned once in Scripture, and is a Messianic prophecy. Gen 49:10, “The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh H7886 come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be.”
Refugee Cities
Joshua 20:2 “Speak to the children of Israel, saying, Appoint out for you cities of refuge, whereof I spake unto you by the hand of Moses”
The Hebrew word for Refugee is MIQLAT H4733 – miqlāṭ, also meaning “seeking asylum“. When we read the chapter, it only explains the city to be a place for someone who killed someone else, by accident. However, that is not the main focus point. The main focus point is someones’ life is in danger, and they need to find a place of safety. This is regardless whether they have killed someone or not. That is the definition of a refugee or asylum, “a person who has been forced to leave their country in order to escape war, persecution, or natural disaster“.
YHWH is so amazing that He even thinks ahead of time to create places of safety. King David also had to flee to Hebron, a refugee city. When Yeshua was born, his parents had to flee as well! Herod decreed to have all male babies killed. But the irony is, Yeshua’s parents were told by an angel to flee to Egypt! This is not even a city in Israel, and it is the place where another leader, Pharaoh, instructed to have all male babies killed in the time of Moses. Talk about coming full circle.
Matthew 2:13 “And when they had left, see, a messenger of YHWH appeared to Yosĕph in a dream, saying, “Arise, take the Child and His mother, and flee to Mitsrayim (Egypt), and remain there until I bring you word, for Herodes is about to seek the Child to destroy Him.”
