No Leader
Judges 17:6 “In those days there was no king in Israel, but every man did that which was right in his own eyes.”
Israel was without a leader, a prophet, a king, a judge .. there were still Levites wandering around trying to find a place to survive. Micah was obviously thinking he was doing good, and didn’t see the harm in having idols and carved images. Even the Levite seem oblivous to the fact that it is against the Big Commandments! So in their heart they were still serving YHWH, but in their own way – not YHWH’s way. What is right in their own eyes.
It is each and every persons’ responsibility to question the leaders we are following, and wholeheartedly search for the truth – YHWH’s Truth. But people say, “Everybody does it, how can it be wrong?” Just because someone is the loudest, or something is legal or even tradition – doesn’t make it right. Conformity is doing what everybody else is doing, regardless of what is right. Morality is doing what is right, regardless of what everybody else is doing.
Even though they didn’t have a proper leader, YHWH still remain the true King and our Father.
