Lords and gods
Isaiah 31:3 “The Egyptians are humans, not gods“. Some translations even says “not God”, singular and capital G. However in the Hebrew language there are not uppercase and lowercase. Using an uppercase, especially when all letters are uppercase translated like “LORD”, it usually refers to YHWH. But that should not be the case here.
The Hebrew word for “gods” used here is el H410 – ‘ēl, which means god-like, mighty men, heroes, and even angels. Usually with translations, when you see God/god it refers to El or Elohim, and if you see LORD it refers to YHWH, but one should always check the Hebrew, as translators mix these up.
Ancient Mesopotamian, Egyptian, Roman, Japanese, and Inca civilizations believed their leaders were gods or of divine lineage, like the pharaohs in Egypt and Roman emperors. They believed they were not mere humans. Remember all the giants since Noah’s time till even with David’s time. Those people’s bloodlines were mixed with the fallen angels. That is why they looked different and were big in stature, like the Pharaohs, and the people adored them. That is why the word “el” or god means god-like, mighty men or heroes (just like the stories of Thor and Zeus which comes from Greece and the Nordics).
Today we are familiar with the term “Lord” given to mostly Britain’s people of nobility, and they even have an institution for them called the “House of Lords”. This title is given so people would know that they have authority, control and power over “normal” people. However, YHWH is the only Elohim, and here he says in Isaiah 31:3 “they are humans, not gods”, they are not to be feared. Deuteronomy 6:13 says, “You shall fear YHWH your Elohim, serve Him only, and take your oaths in His Name“.
But translators have removed YHWH’s Name from most bibles, and now YHWH is only know as “Lord” and people in power can also be called “lord”. This is not from YHWH. People today do not know what “God” or “our Lord”‘s name is.. See a typical translated verse like Genesis 21:33, “And Abraham planted a grove in Beersheba, and called there on the name of the LORD, the everlasting God. H410″. Abraham didn’t call on “name of the Lord”.. “he called on the name of YHWH” – that is what the original Hebrew says. How can one know the name of a Title?
See what Yeshua even says about calling someone lord, master, teacher and even father… from Matthew 23:8-12 “But be not ye called Rabbi (Teacher): for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are brethren. And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven. Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, even Christ. But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant. And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.”
What is sin?
Isaiah 35:8 “A highway will be there, a roadway. It will be called the Holy Road. Sinners won’t travel on it“
Some translators use the word “Fools” instead of sinners. The Hebrew word for fools or sinners in the verse is Evil H191 – ‘ĕvîl! However the word does mean foolish, as in someone who despises wisdom and loves to quarrel. But perhaps in your Bible you would have noticed a few times the word “sin” or “sinners” is used. The Hebrew word is not always “evil” or fools, but sometimes it is the Hebrew word Hatta H2400 – ḥaṭṭā’, which means an offender, exposed for condemnation, someone who has missed the way, to go off the track and miss the mark or rules. That would identify as the “fools”, who are rebellious, quarralsome and despises wisdom and correction.
So what is The Way, or the rules or mark? See our previous post from Proverbs 16 where we explain “The Way”. John explains very well what sin is, in plain words, 1 John 3:4 “Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.” Which Law or rules? That would be the Torah, the instructions given by YHWH on how to walk “The Way”. Click here to see a list of previous posts about what is Torah.
Yeshua also said it very plainly, but translators make it confusing once again. The famous verse in Matthew 7 where Yeshua says people will call to Him to enter the Kingdom of Heaven, saying they know Him and have done all kinds of great works.. but Yeshua’s famous reply of “And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.” This word iniquity in Greek is Anomia G458 – anomia, meaning ignoring the laws, lawlessness, violaters of the law. Did Yeshua come to take away the law? If He doesn’t recognize those who don’t keep the Law? In Matthew 5:17 He then says, “Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.”
