Gatekeepers
1 Chronicles 26:1 “Concerning the divisions of the porters” Earlier in Chronicles we see another verse on gatekeepers, in 1 Chronicles 9:23, “So they and their children had the oversight of the gates of the house of YHWH, namely, the house of the tabernacle, by wards.”
The gatekeepers were assigned to the entrances to the temple and their task was simple – they had to keep out whoever or whatever was unclean. The hebrew word for Gate is Saar H8179 – šaʿar, also meaning door or entrance. Gatekeeper in hebrew is So’er H7778 – šôʿēr, also doorkeeper or porter.
The Temple of YHWH resembles our bodies, and the concept of “gates” in Scripture, refers to access to our soul and the spirit world, represents the entry points through which thoughts, emotions, and influences enter our inner being. Protecting these “gates” is crucial to stay aligned with YHWH’s will. This means protecting your thoughts, what you think. Your ears, what you hear and listen to. Your mouth, watch and guard what you say. Your eyes, what you see and look at. It is so important, Yeshua made this statement in Matthew 5:28-29 “If your right eye makes you stumble and leads you to sin, tear it out and throw it away [that is, remove yourself from the source of temptation]; for it is better for you to lose one of the parts of your body, than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.”
