Ezekiel 14:4 “Therefore speak to them, and say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD”. Another translation says, ““Therefore speak to them, and you shall say to them, ‘Thus said the Master Yehovah,”

There are two words that translators replaced with “Lord”. The Hebrew word used here is Adonay H136 – ‘ăḏōnāy. The Hebrew word for God is Yehovah H3069 – yᵊhōvâ. However the same word, Yehovah H3068 – Yᵊhōvâ is also sometimes translated as Lord. There is also the word El H410 – ‘ēl, Eloha H433 – ‘ĕlôha and Elohim H430 – ‘ĕlōhîm (plural of El or Eloha), which are also translated as God. So this can be really confusing, where they replace YHWH’s name with either Lord, LORD or God, but you wouldn’t know if they talking about YHWH, whether His Name is written, or a Title – titles which used on men as well, like “Lord”. It truly is a different experience when you can have a translation that uses the original Hebrew words, El, Elohim, Adonai, Yehova.

  • El, Eloha and Elohim means Mighty, Powerful, Judge, Exceeding
  • Adonay, and the root word Adon H113 – ‘āḏôn, means Master, Owner, Ruler

Luke 12:35-37 ““Let your waist be girded and your lamps burning; and you yourselves be like men who wait for their master, when he will return from the wedding, that when he comes and knocks they may open to him immediately. Blessed are those servants whom the master, when he comes, will find watching.”

Matthew 7:21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.

Ezekiel 14:14 “Even if these three men, Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it, they would deliver only themselves by their righteousness

Daniel and Ezekiel lived at the same time, and were both part of the Exiles to Babylon, although Daniel’s prophetic life started about a decade before Ezekiel’s. But here in Ezekiel, YHWH is making an example of Noah, Daniel and Job. Even if the most righteous are among evil, they themselves cannot save anyone, even their own children. Noah had to stand alone against all the world and look ridiculous to them. Job stuck to trusting YHWH in good and bad times. Daniel went extreme in his dedication to YHWH by prayers (even though he was forbidden to), fasting, eating only vegetables (which was the safest as all the foods were contaminated with unclean foods), and refusing to go against YHWH’s commands (worshipping others).

When you read these three names in Hebrew, they mean the following. Noah means rest or comfort, while Job means tired and afflicted, and Daniel means YHWH is Judge. In times where we are tired and afflicted, find rest and comfort that YHWH will be your judge.
