Pit below the earth
Ez 32:18-19 “..cast them down to the depths of the earth.. With those who go down to the Pit … “
There are three Hebrew words we can look at here, for “down”, “depths or below” and “pit”. Down is Yarad H3381 – yāraḏ, meaning to descend, sink down, go down or decline. Depths or below is Tahti H8482 – taḥtî, meaning the lowest part, lower or under. Pit is Bor H953 – bôr, meaning a dungeon, deep pit, well or fountain.
Pit of Uncircumcized
Ez 32:18-19 “..cast them down to the depths of the earth.. With those who go down to the Pit … Go down, be placed with the uncircumcised“. Some translations might not use uncircumcised, but rather “godless people”.
The Hebrew word for uncircumcised is Arel H6189 – ʿārēl. We have made a couple of posts about the meaning of circumcisions (click here to read more), and marking yourself by circumcision is meant as a sign of belonging to YHWH. But also in these posts, there are two circumcisions that always come up in the old testament, not just the flesh, but the heart too.
