Light
Isaiah 49:6 “I have made you a light for the nations so that you would save people all over the world”. Apart from Psalms that talk about the Light, Isaiah mentions light a lot! See for example this one as well, Isaiah 51:4, “Hearken unto me, my people; and give ear unto me, O my nation: for the law (Torah) shall proceed from Me, and I will make my judgment to rest for a light of the people.”
The Hebrew word for light is Or H216 – ‘ôr/H215 – ‘ôr, meaning to be light, to shine, illuminated, lighted up, related to eyes, your face and also the Torah (YHWH’s laws and teachings) is a light. Psalm 119:135 “Make H215 thy face to shine H215 upon thy servant; and teach me thy statutes.” Isaiah 2:5 “O house of Jacob, come ye, and let us walk in the light H216 of YHWH“
But we read what YHWH says about people shining in their own glory and trying to be a light by themselves, In Isaiah 50:10-11, “Behold, all ye that kindle a fire, that compass yourselves about with sparks: walk in the light of your fire, and in the sparks that ye have kindled. This shall ye have of mine hand; ye shall lie down in sorrow.”
Yeshua said He is the Light, He teaches the Torah (instructions from YHWH) and makes you understand (it is light a light goes on in your brain). In John 8:12 He says, “I am the light of the world: he that follows me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.” In Isaiah 60 we read that there will be no more sun in the new earth, verse 19 “The sun shall be no more thy light by day; neither for brightness shall the moon give light unto thee: but YHWH shall be unto thee an everlasting light, and YHWH thy glory.” This is all confirmed in Revelation 21:23 “And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of YHWH did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.” and also Revelation 22:5 “And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for YHWH Elohim giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever.”
Wake Up, Be Alert
Isaiah 51:9 “Awake, awake, put on strength, O arm of YHWH; awake, as in the ancient days, in the generations of old. Art thou not it that hath cut Rahab, and wounded the dragon?”
See our previous post from Job 26 on Rahab the dragon (click here for more). These words “Awake Awake” are repeated in verse 17 and in Chapter 52. The Hebrew word is Ur H5782 – ʿûr, meaning something is stirring, to rise up, to become excited, to open your eyes!! Yeshua also reminded us to be awake, for example with the 5 wise bridesmaids, to be sharp and alert because we are among wolves (Matthew 10:16). His words to be awake in Matthew 26:41, Mark 13:37, and Luke 21:36, “Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” and “Stay awake at all times praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that are going to take place, and to stand before the Son of Man”.
Man of Sorrows
Isaiah 53:3 “He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.”
The Hebrew word for man (ish) and Sorrows is Ish Makoboth H4341 – maḵ’ōḇ. This word means pain in the physical form but also in the mind. The first time we see this word is where YHWH responds to Israel’s cries in Egypt, in Exodus 3:7, “And YHWH said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people which are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I know their sorrows; H4341″
Transgressions
Isaiah 53:5,8 “But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed…for the transgression of my people was he stricken“
This is one of the most famous bible verses. But, unfortunately, again the translators have changed the wording a bit, and this wrong translation is used as an excuse to continue a life of sin and transgressions – because Yeshua “paid the price” in advance. However, the verse should not read “He was wounded and bruised for…”, but rather “because of transgressions He was bruised“. He didn’t “pay the price” in advance for any future transgressions, giving a ticket to continue living in any way we like. Only once we stop and confess our transgressions and turn our ways around, we can count under those of “because of our past transgressions”.
The literal Hebrew translation should look more like this “He: transgression sorrow, wicked/sin brokeness/crushed, peace instruction, healing wounds“
The Hebrew word for transgression (which brings sorrow) is Pesa H6588 – pešaʿ, meaning rebellion, to go against.
