Crown
Job 31:35-36 “Oh that one would hear me! behold, my desire is, that the Almighty would answer me, and that mine adversary had written a book. Surely I would take it upon my shoulder, and bind it as a crown to me.”
Crown in Hebrew is ATARA H5850 – ʿăṭārâ, almost sounds like “tiara“. As a matter of fact, the word “tiara” originates from ancient Persia and was initially used to describe the distinctive headwear of Persian kings. It was later adopted into Greek (tiara) and Latin (tiara). The Hebrew translation could also be a “wreath“, like what the Roman and Greeks wore to symbolize victory, honor or even immortality.
The first time we read about a crown is with David in 2 Samuel 12:30, “And he took their king’s crown H5850 from off his head, the weight whereof was a talent of gold with the precious stones: and it was set on David’s head.”
A crown in Scripture is often compared to pride. What is your glory, what gives you joy, your pride and joy.
- Job 19:9 also mentioned this earlier, “He hath stripped me of my glory, and taken the crown H5850 from my head.”
- A good woman is the pride and glory of the husband, Proverbs 12:4 “A virtuous woman is a crown H5850 to her husband“.
- For some their riches are their glory, Proverbs 14:24 “The crown H5850 of the wise is their riches“.
- When you become old and wise, your grandchildren become your glory. Proverbs 17:6, “Children’s children are the crown H5850 of old men“
In the end, Isaiah prophesy that YHWH will become the crown of His people, and His people YHWH’s crown.
- Isaiah 28:5 In that day shall YHWH of hosts be for a crown H5850 of glory, and for a diadem of beauty, unto the residue of his people
- Isaiah 62:3 Thou shalt also be a crown H5850 of glory in the hand of YHWH, and a royal diadem in the hand of thy Elohim
In Isaiah 28:5 quoted above, it mentions the crown and diadem. Diadem in Hebrew is SEPIRA H6843 – ṣᵊp̄îrâ, sounds alot like tiara, and actually also means tiara, plait, wreath, crown, coronation, encircling of the head – also a turn of affairs. Also morning, as in the break of the next day.
Ezekiel 7:10 “Behold the day, behold, it is come: the morning H6843 is gone forth; the rod hath blossomed, pride hath budded.”
The question is : What is your crown?
