Whirlwind
Job 38:1 “Then YHWH answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said”
Some translations say YHWH answered out of the storm. The Hebrew word here is SAAR H5591 – saʿar, meaning like a hurricane, a tempest storm, whirlwind. Actually the first time this word was used, and only time with a person, was with Elijah! 2 Kings 2:1 “And it came to pass, when YHWH would take up Elijah into heaven by a whirlwind, H5591″
Even David understood YHWH’s whirlwind in Psalm 83:15, “So persecute them with thy tempest, H5591 and make them afraid with thy storm.” David mentions this whirlwind many times in Psalm, but does this one sound familiar or remind you of Someone? Psalm 107:29 “He maketh the storm H5591 a calm, so that the waves thereof are still.”
And another with a prophecy for the end times in Zechariah 9:14, “And YHWH shall be seen over them, and his arrow shall go forth as the lightning: and YHWH Elohim shall blow the trumpet, and shall go with whirlwinds H5591 of the south.”
Behemoth
Job 40:15 “Behold now behemoth, which I made with thee; he eateth grass as an ox.”
Behemoth H930 – bahămôṯ, mostly means large beasts or land animals. Some refer to Behemoth even as dinosaurs, or the land monster, where Leviathan is the sea monster. Not much is said about Behemoth, except the few verses mentioned below. But Leviathan gets more than an entire chapter (Job 41), describing him in a lot of detail. Leviathan was also mentioned right in the beginning of Job, chapter 3 (click here to read more about Leviathan).
Behemoth root word is BEHEMA H929 – bᵊhēmâ, meaning animals, (wild) beasts, cattle, livestock. Looking at the verses with Behemoth/Behema in, it really is just the great beasts of the field – which obviously carries a special place in YHWH’s Heart. Man and Beast (Behemoth) is often mentioned together!
- Gen 2:20 “And Adam gave names to all cattle/beasts, H929 and to the fowl of the air, and to every creature of the field”
- Gen 3:14 “And YHWH Elohim said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, H929 and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life”
- Gen 8:1 “And Elohim remembered Noah, and every living thing, and all the cattle H929 that was with him in the ark” – Again not necessarily just “cattle”, but all the large land animals.
- Jonah 3:8 “But let man and beast H929 be covered with sackcloth, and cry mightily unto God: yea, let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence that is in their hands.”
