Judges: Tola, Jair, Jephtah, Ibzan, Elon, Abdon
Judges: Tola
Judges 10:1 “there arose Tola son of Pu’ah, son of Doḏo, a man of Yissasḵar, to save Yisra’ĕl. And he dwelt in Shamur in the mountains of Ephrayim. And he ruled Yisra’ĕl twenty-three years.”
TOLA H8438/H8439 – tôlāʿ, means scarlet, crimson worm. The crimson worm comes from the Middle East and produces a bright red dye. This exact dye was used for various purposes in ancient Israel, including the Tabernacle and the high priest’s garments. One of the most famous scriptures about crimson is in Isaiah 1:18, “Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, H8438 they shall be as wool.”
Judges: Jair
Judges 10:3 “Ya’ir, a Gil‛aḏite, and he ruled Yisra’ĕl twenty-two years. And he had thirty sons who rode on thirty donkeys. And they had thirty towns”
YAIR H2971 – yā’îr means “enlightener”, from the root word H215 – ‘ôr, meaning light, shine
Judges: Jephthah
Judges 11:3 “And Yiphtaḥ fled from his brothers and dwelt in the land of Toḇ. And worthless men banded together with Yiphtaḥ and went out with him.”
Judges 11:30 “And Yiphtaḥ made a vow to YHWH”. What Yiphtah did was just terrible! But.. how many times have we said something.. words or promises that come just too quickly out of our mouths. Promises that was completely unnecessary! YHWH still would have helped, whether Yiphtah made a silly promise like that or not. Remember, 1) let go of pride 3) trust YHWH that He will deliver, it is not because of you – it is His will 3) do not make promises, for Yeshua said in Matthew 5:34-37, “Say only ‘yes’ if you mean ‘yes,’ and say only ‘no’ if you mean ‘no.’ If you say more than that, it is from the evil one.”
YIPTAH H3316 – yip̄tāḥ means “he opens”, from the root word H6605 – pāṯaḥ – open, loose, wide
Judges: Ibzan

IBZAN H78 – ‘iḇṣān, means “their whiteness“
Judges: Elon
Judges 12:11 “Elon the Zeḇulunite ruled Yisra’ĕl. And he ruled Yisra’ĕl ten years.”
ELON H356 – ‘êlôn meaning mighty, the root word being AYIL H352 – ‘ayil – ram, mighty tree (terebinth)
Judges: Abdon
Judges 12:13 “13And after him, Aḇdon son of Hillĕl the Pirathonite ruled Yisra’ĕl, and he had forty sons and thirty grandsons, who rode on seventy young donkeys. And he ruled Yisra’ĕl eight years.”
ABDON H5658 – ʿaḇdôn meaning servile, from the root word H5647 – ʿāḇaḏ – serve, do, servant, work, worship, service, till
Judge
Judges 11:27 “Let YHWH the Judge, judge today“
The hebrew word for Judge is SAPAT H8199 – šāp̄aṭ, also meaning “to govern, vindicate, plead, avenged, condemn, execute, judgement and even defend or deliver“.
In Genesis 18:25 we read “Shall not the Judge H8199 of all the earth do right?”. In Exodus 20:3 with the very first commandment, we read “Thou shalt have no other gods/elohim before me.” The word Elohim H430 – ‘ĕlōhîm are many times translated in the bible as “God“. But it could also refer to other gods, and could also mean Judge. For example in Exodus 22:9 we read, “For all manner of trespass, whether it be for ox, for ass, for sheep, for raiment, or for any manner of lost thing, which another challengeth to be his, the cause of both parties shall come before the judges; and whom the judges shall condemn, he shall pay double unto his neighbour.”, where “judges” is the hebrew word “elohim”.
From the first commandment we can also understand that “You will not have anyone else judge you”, that is in the final Judgement. Ecclesiastes 12:14, “For Elohim will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil.” Revelation 20:13, “And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them, and they were judged, each one of them, according to what they had done.”
Yeshua also taught that we are not to judge each other, and to remember that we will be judged the same we that we judge. Matthew 7:1-2, “Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”
Deuteronomy 1:17, “Ye shall not respect/fear persons in judgment; but ye shall hear the small as well as the great; ye shall not be afraid of the face of man; for the judgment is Elohim’s”
