30 Silver Coins, Strangers
Matthew 26:15, 27:3-10 ““What are you willing to give me if I deliver Him to you?” And they counted out to him thirty pieces of silver.”, “I have sinned by betraying innocent blood…the chief priests took the silver pieces and said, “It is not lawful to put them into the treasury, because they are the price of blood…bought with them the potter’s field, to bury strangers in.”
These 30 pieces of silver coins are a prophecy fulfilled by Zechariah11, pointing to the false prophets and leaders who sell out the Shepherd for a slaves’ value, and then buy a potter’s field, to be used for the strangers. The theme of strangers, pilgrims or sojourners is prevalent since the beginning of Scriptures, for example see this post from Genesis 37, where even Abraham was considered a pilgrim, stranger or sojourner. As a matter of fact, the term Hebrew in (the language) Hebrew is Ibri H5680 – ʿiḇrî, meaning “one from beyond”, even “put into the mouth of foreigners”. Genesis 14:13 “Abram the Hebrew, for he dwelt by the terebinth trees of Mamre”. There are quite a few verses, like Exodus 23:9 and Deuteronomy 10:19 which reminds Israel that to love and not oppress foreigners because they were once strangers also.
