Complaining Mob

“And the mixed multitude who were in their midst lusted/longed/covet/sighed greatly”
Number 11:4

Numbers 11:4 “And the mixed multitude who were in their midst lusted/longed/covet/sighed greatly”. Here the translators or english fail us again. The Hebrew word here for mixed multitude is ASAPSUP H628 – ‘ăsap̄sup̄ – which means a collection/multitude/MOB – in other words a MOB of Complainers.

This is NOT the same mixed multitude which we see in Exodus 12:38 which became part of Israel. That Hebrew word is EREB RAB. It is so easy here to do the blame game and just blame those multitude which were not Israelites. As a matter of fact, Kaleb/Caleb came from that mixed multitude and was not a physical descendant of Jacob. Yet he was allowed to be the representative of the tribe of Judah when they went on the spying mission.

Numbers 11:34 “Then he called the name of that place Kibroth-hattaavah, because there they buried the people who had lusted.” The name/word Kibrothhattaavah H6914 – qiḇrôṯ hata’ăvâ means “graves of the longing/lust“. That.. is where the complaining mobs ended up in.

Gossip

Now Miryam and Aharon spoke against Mosheh … And YHWH heard it
Number 12:1-2

Numbers 12:1-2 “Now Miryam and Aharon spoke against Mosheh … And YHWH heard it.”
Numbers 12:13 “And Mosheh cried out to YHWH, saying, “O El, please heal her, please!” In Hebrew, the word Please/Pray is basically one. This is such a quick powerful prayer – YHWH, NA (I pray please) RAPA (heal) NA (I pray please)!

YHWH gives Grace and listens to the prayer, but the YHWH’s Law is still enforced! Grace + Law. So after the 7 days that she has to leave camp, as per Leviticus 13, she was healed.

Why only Miryam? Numbers 12 verse 1 starts with her name first, indicating that she was the instigator to the gossipping.

Kaleb and YeHoshua (Greek Jesus)

“And Mosheh called Hoshĕa the son of Nun, Yehoshua (Jehoshua)”
Number 13:16

In Numbers 13 a representative man from each tribe is chosen to look at the Promised Land Kanaan. Caleb from Judah and Hosea from Ephraim. In verse 16 we read that Hosea is renamed, “And Mosheh called Hoshĕa the son of Nun, Yehoshua (Jehoshua)”. The name Hosea H1954 – hôšēaʿ means Salvation/Deliverer, the root word from where Yeshua comes from. The name Yehoshua/Jehoshua in Hebrew (from verse 16) is H3091 – yᵊhôšûaʿ, which means “YHWH is Salvation“. So Moses didn’t want to call him Hosea (He Saves), but be more specific YEHosea (YHWH Saves).

In english we know this guy as Yehoshua/Jehosua as Joshua.. where Joshua is just a short/nickname version, just like Yeshua is a short/nickname for Yehoshua (greek use “J” and Hebrew use “Y”)

The translations swop names and words around, and it can be very confusing – that is why one should always look at the original Hebrew texts. The translators also didn’t want to use the word Jesus in the old testament, or Joshua in the new testament – so they created two names for the same person. The letter “J” in english was only officially recognized for the first time in 1524, so the name Jesus is very new, and did not exist when the Scriptures were written.

We see in Numbers 13:16 in the original Hebrew, the name “Yehoshua”. Let us look at the greek translation (Septuagint LXX) for this exact verse, which says “Ιεφοννη καὶ Ἰησοῦς ὁ τοῦ Ναυη“. The word Ἰησοῦς is Iesous g2424. Here I have copied from the strongs : “The KJV translates Strong’s G2424 in the following manner: Jesus (972x), Jesus (Joshua) (2x), Jesus (Justus) (1x)” – and this is in the old Testament in Numbers 13.

We even see this confusion of Joshua/Jesus in the new testament also.  Perhaps have a look at what your Bible translation says, some translations say “Jesus” – where the original is off course Joshua (Yehoshua). Acts 7:45 “which our fathers, having received it in turn, also brought with Yehoshua g2424 (iēsous) into the land possessed by the gentiles”.  This verse in Acts talks about Joshua going into the Promised Land – but the greek name is Iesous.  And in Hebrews 4:8 “For if Yehoshua g2424 (iēsous) had given them rest, He would not have spoken of another day after that.”  Again proof that Yehoshua (Joshua) and Yeshua (greek Jesus) is the same name.

And just guess what the people wanted to do to Kaleb and Yehoshua (Joshua)… stone them to death! Does that not sound vaguely familiar? Numbers 14:10 “But all the congregation said to stone them with stones.”

Numbers 14:24 “But My servant Kaleb, because he has a different spirit in him and has followed Me completely, I shall bring into the land where he went, and his seed shall inherit it.” and verse 30 “None of you except Kaleb son of Yephunneh, and Yehoshua son of Nun, shall enter the land which I swore I would make you dwell in.” Just know this, when following YHWH – you will be part of the minority.
