Envy of the world
Ps 73:2 “But as for me, my feet had almost stumbled“. This Psalm is about envying what others have and achieved. The rest of the Psalm reads something like this : “For I was envious of the boastful, When I saw the prosperity of the wicked .. their strength is firm, They are not in trouble as other men .. pride serves as their necklace .. They have more than heart could wish .. That is why Elohim’s people turn to wickedness..”
It is hard to focus on what really matters, when you are surrounded by physical experiences! Verse 16-17 is so profound, “When I tried to understand this, it was too difficult for me. ONLY WHEN I came into Elohim’s Holy Place did I FINALLY UNDERSTAND what would happen to them”. We are blinded and deceived by what the world has to offer. This Psalm goes great with Psalm 49 (click here to read more) which is about the Poor and Rich in the world.
Psalm 73 started with, “73:3 For I was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked”. The word envious in Hebrew is Qana H7065 – qānā’, meaning jealous and envious – but with a zeal! It is the same ZEAL to describe Elijah and Jehu’s Zeal for YHWH, and also YHWH’s Zeal in 2 Kings 10 (click here to read more). That is how strong this jealousy or envy for the world can be – it is a Zeal that drives you. You can feel it in your bones and skin, your eyes long for it, and you will put in sleepless nights and lots of effort to have it! That is why Asaph writes in this Psalm in verse 2.. “my feet almost stumbled!”.
But that is ha-satan’s trick, to deceive us in this world. He even tried it with Yeshua in Matthew 4:8-9, “the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.”” When we go with Zeal after the worldly things, it is the same as worshiping ha-satan, because Yeshua’s answered and quoted the Torah in Deuteronomy 6:13, “Thou shalt fear YHWH thy Elohim, and Him only shalt thou serve.” In Matthew 19:16-30 Yeshua also shows how hard it is, once you have the love of the world and it’s riches, how hard it is to let go, “Then said Yeshua unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven.”
