Yeshua commands the Laws & More!
Matthew 5:19 “Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven”
“These commandments” refer to the Torah. Yeshua didn’t have any other “bibles” or scriptures.. or a “new testament”. As a matter of fact, when Yeshua refers to the Law and Prophets in verse 17, “Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets” – because that is what the “old testament” is made up off : The Laws (Torah, first five books of the bible) and the Prophets (which makes up a third of their Scriptures) and the rest is called Writings (stories like Job and Ruth, and teachings like Psalms and Proverbs).
As a matter of fact, not only did Yeshua come to teach and explain the Torah to the disciples, He took it a notch up!
- Verse 21-22 – “not allowed to murder”, “But I say to you that whoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment”
- Verse 27-28 – “shall not commit adultery”, “But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart”
- Verse 33-34 – “You shall not swear falsely”, “But I say to you, do not swear at all!”
From Matthew 5:17-48, how can we teach people the Laws don’t matter or exist? Verse 19 clearly says, if we break these commands or teach others to break them, we are in serious trouble! As a matter of fact, we should not just apply the Laws, but go the extra mile to make sure we won’t break the Laws in our hearts and minds!
Yeshua's Prayer Guideline
Matthew 6:9-13
“In this manner, therefore, pray:
Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
As we forgive our debtors.
And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.“
From this very short prayer, we can learn the following:
- Address the Creator and Owner of Heaven, your Father
- Revere and Honor His Name
- Learn about His Kingdom
- Know what His Will is, and ask for His Will
- He is Creator and Ruler of not just Heaven, but earth too
Trust Him for provision, as we should not worry about earthly things - Not just physical bread, but His Word daily and understanding
- Think about your wrongs, be humble and truthful and ask forgiveness for ourselves and those around us
- More importantly is to be reminded that we should forgive, we cannot be forgiven if we don’t forgive others
- Ask for protection not to be led into satan’s lies and traps of temptation
- Acknowledge that all the power, glory and kingdoms belong to Him
- Amen is from the Hebrew word Aman, meaning to believe wholeheartedly

Cloudy/Evil Eyes
Matthew 6:23 “But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness.”
In the previous verses 19-21 Yeshua talks about where is your treasure, what do you treasure and racing after worldly riches. Back in Numbers 22 (click here to read more), we learned about what a “bad eye”, or “evil eye” means in Hebrew. And it might not be what we think in our western culture. This is why it is so important to go back to the beginning of the bible, and learn, study and understand what the Torah and the Laws mean. An evil eye means you are stingy! Having a good eye means you are a generous person. So Yeshua is saying, if you are a stingy person, your entire life/body is affected with darkness.
Worrying / Doubt / Fear
Matthew 6:31-33 “Therefore do not worry.. For after all these things the Gentiles seek.. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness”
Worry, Doubt and Fear is the exact opposite force of having Faith. We are commanded to have Faith. Many times we will see Yeshua commands this, and also being happy when He finds people with Faith! Faith is built by seeking, learning and understanding the Kingdom of YHWH and Righteousness. What is Righteousness – click here to see a previous post from 1 Samuel 26 explaining the word “Righteousness”, which has to do with studying and applying the Laws – as the Laws teaches your mind and heart what is Right.
