In Chapter 22 we had a donkey (actually an ass – the female version of the donkey) that sees, then Balaam sees the Messenger. Three times Balaam spoke a blessing over the Israelites, while looking at them from 3 different false god mountain tops. Balaam says in Numbers 24:3 “whose eyes are opened, who hears the words of El, who SEES the vision of the Almighty, who falls down with EYES opened wide!” And then verses 17 “I see Him, but not now; I observe Him, but not near. ”

That is a LOT OF “SEE” in these chapters!  In the Hebrew language there are 22 letters/symbols. The first letter is Aleph, and the last letter is Bet – that is where the word alphabet comes from : alefbet. The sixteenth letter of the alphabet is Ayin H5869 – ʿayin – and this letter in Hebrew means EYE!

Right in the beginning with Genesis, we see that YHWH SPOKE (mouth/words) and He SAW (eyes) that which He made was good. But the very first time we see the word EYE is when hasatan promises in Gen 3:5 that their eyes will be opened, they will be as gods, and know good from evil. So they would be able to see a whole other world.

Did you know, that 40-50% of our brain are dedicated to visual information? Your eyes are just the windows, but you actually SEE with your brain. Your fingerprints have about 50-100 unique characteristics, while the eye have 240. The Hebrew letter represents an evil eye and a good eye. In Hebrew this actually means that good eye is to be generous, and an evil eye is to be stingy. Understanding Hebrew, we could understand Yeshua better when He said in Matthew 6:22-24 “The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is good, all your body shall be enlightened. But if your eye is evil, all your body shall be darkened. If, then, the light that is within you is darkness, how great is that darkness! No one is able to serve two masters, for either he shall hate the one and love the other, or else he shall cleave to the one and despise the other. You are not able to serve Elohim and mammon.” Yeshua was referring to the god of material wealth and riches and greed, as this is known as mammon. And here He was talking about the eyes – it can’t be both good and bad. And when it is good – then the light will shine in you, but if it is bad – how deep that darkness is!

In Songs of Songs (Solomon) 4:9 we read “Your eyes are as doves behind your veil.” Why a doves’ eyes? Because a dove is known to be able to focus only on 1 thing at a time, fully focused on the One. The way a doves’ eyes are positioned, they have to move their entire head to change focus. Doves’ eyes are also a metaphor for beauty and purity. Eye/Ayin and the word see are mentioned over 2000 times just in the old testament, especially in Psalms where David says things like “I lift up my eyes, where my help comes from“; “Rivers of waters run down my eyes because they don’t keep the law”; “turn away my eyes from beholding vanity”; “find favour in the sight/eyes of YHWH”. In 1 John 2:16 we read “For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

Num 24:17 “..A Star shall come out of Yacob, and a Sceptre shall rise out of Yisrael” The first time wee see star is in Genesis 1:14-16 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years: And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so. And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.” The Stars were given also for light, for signs and for YHWHs’ appointed times.

YHWH uses the stars as a prophecy for Abraham in Genesis 22:17 “That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies;”

When Balaams’ eyes are opened on the mountain tops, He “sees” and prophecies about a specific Star that will come from this nation. When Yeshua was born, a star was given that pointed to Baby Yeshua. In Revelations 22:16 Yeshua Himself says: “I, YEHOSHUA, have sent My messenger to witness to you these matters in the assemblies. I am the Root and the Offspring of Dawid, the Bright and Morning Star.”

In Numbers 22-24 Balaam was suppose to curse the Israelites. That didn’t work – so ha-satan did the next best thing – tricks and deception. Numbers 25:18 “for they distressed you with their tricks with which they deceived you in the matter of pe‛or“. If they couldn’t get YHWH to turn His Eyes from Israel, then He will try to turn Israels’ eyes from YHWH.

Going forward we will see many other gods being mentioned. There are a few that will really stand out, that even exist until this day. But we will mention those when we get there. In Numbers 24 we read about Peor , where Balaam is called son of Peor (or some translations say Beor). Balaam was a son of, and worshipped false gods, he was a prophet of divinity. He communicated with the spirits, and He knew YHWH, and He could communicate with YHWH too. Peor peor H6465 – p̄ᵊʿôr means big mountain. The people obviously saw this big mountain and they started worshipping there. In Numbers 25 it mentions baal-peor – where baal H1168 – baʿal means “lord” or “master”. In Revelation 19:16 it says ” And on His robe and on His thigh He has a name written: King of kings and Lord of lords“. That is because many will make themselves kings, and ha-satan tries with many evil spirits to make himself lord.

Many bibles today have removed YHWHs’ name and replaced it with “Lord”. The original Hebrew language does have His Name, and He Himself gave His Name that we can call upon. But today when you ask many christians – who is lord? They won’t know His Name, they just know Him as “God” or “Lord”. But which lord is it? YHWH’s name was forcibly removed since Roman times. We are told they did this because they despised the Jews, and remember the romans had many gods. But the fact is, it is YHWH’s Name that they despise.. not the jews. In 2008 the Vatican (coming from Roman background, “Roman Catholic”) issued a directive that “the name of God in the form of the tetragrammaton (YHWH) should neither be used nor pronounced, and should be rendered by the equivalent of ‘Adonai/Kyrios’ or ‘Lord'”.

Yeshua prayed in John 17 verse 6 and 26 “And I have declared to them Your Name“. If your bible does not have YHWHs’ Name, just write His Name in there! And remember that whenever you see “Lord”, it also means “Baal”. YHWH never once said that we should call Him that, or refer to Him as that.
