1 Sam 26:23-24 “And let YHWH reward every man for his righteousness and his trustworthiness, for this day YHWH gave you into my hand, but I would not stretch out my hand against the anointed of YHWH. And see, as your life has been valued in my eyes today, so let my life be valued in the eyes of YHWH, and let Him deliver me out of all distress.” Another translation says, “YHWH render to every man his righteousness and his faithfulness”

The hebrew word for Righteousness is SEDAQA H6666 – ṣᵊḏāqâ, meaning Justice, what is Right, act Right, according to Law. Righteousness isn’t just acting “nicely” and doing what WE THINK is right.. it is what is Right according to YHWH’s Laws and Ways – that is Righteousness.

Gen 15:6 “And he believed in YHWH; and he counted it to him for righteousness. H6666
Job 27:6 “My righteousness H6666 I hold fast, and will not let it go
Psalm 5:8 “Lead me, O YHWH, in thy righteousness H6666 because of mine enemies; make thy way straight before my face.
Psalm 11:7 “For the righteous YHWH loveth righteousness; H6666 his countenance doth behold the upright.
Mal 4:2 “But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness H6666 arise with healing in his wings;

1 Sam 28:15 And Shemu’ĕl said to Sha’ul, “Why have you disturbed me by bringing me up?” And Sha’ul answered, “I am deeply distressed, for the Philistines are fighting against me, and Elohim has turned aside from me and does not answer me any more, neither by prophets nor by dreams. So I have called you, to reveal to me what I should do.”

Leviticus 19:31 and Deuteronomy 18:9-14 explicitly forbid seeking guidance or divination from spirits of the dead, including mediums or necromancers. This is seen as seeking power from sources other than YHWH.

Sheol / Underworld

The dead go to Sheol to sleep after their bodies die, until the day YHWH will wake them up for the great final day of Judgement. In Genesis 37:35 we also read about Sheol, the Hebrew word is H7585 – šᵊ’ôl. Sheol is not hell, and people do not go directly to heaven after death either. All peoples’ souls are gathered to sleep.  It is rather the gathering place for the souls, “designation for the abode of the dead”. It is also called the underworld, grave or pit. It is not the final destination for souls. The root word for Sheol is SAAL H7592 – šā’al, meaning waiting to ask, require, request, seek. Here all will wait to receive, ask, require their judgement.
