Song of Thanks
1 Chronicles 16:8-36 is repeated, and largely mirrored in Psalms 105:1-15 and Psalm 96:1-13. This song, originally composed by David, was to commemorate the Ark’s arrival in Jerusalem and to emphasize YHWH’s faithfulness and covenant with Israel.
Asaph
1 Chronicles 16:7 “On that day David first delivered this psalm into the hand of Asaph and his brethren, to thank YHWH”
Asaph’s name H623 – ‘āsāp̄ means gatherer. Asaph was a prominent Levite musician and composer, particularly known for leading worship during the reigns of King David and King Solomon. He was one of the chief musicians appointed by David to oversee music in the tabernacle and later the temple. Asaph is credited with composing twelve Psalms (50, 73-83), which are known for their theological depth and reflections on YHWH and Israel.
