2 Chronicles 6:14 “And said, O YHWH Elohim of Israel, there is no Elohim like thee in the heaven, nor in the earth; which keepest covenant, and shewest mercy unto thy servants, that walk before thee with all their hearts”

The Hebrew word for covenant is Berit H1285 – bᵊrîṯ, also meaning alliance, pledge, a treaty, constitution, ordinance, agreement.  The word covenant basically to its core means, “An alliance between God (YHWH) and men”.  The root word for Berit is Bara H1254 – bārā’, meaning to Create, birth, shape or form, a miracle.  This is the same word used, and the very First Word used in the Bible!  Genesis 1:1 “In the beginning Elohim created H1254 the heaven and the earth.” The Hebrew reads, “Resit Elohim Bara” – Resit meaning Beginning. That is why the Hebrew name for the book of Genesis is “Bere-Shit” – Create Begin, or Begin Create.

There are only 5 places in Scripture where YHWH made a Covenant with men:

1. Noah – Genesis 9:9-11 “And I, behold, I establish my covenant H1285  with you, and with your seed after you; And with every living creature that is with you, of the fowl, of the cattle, and of every beast of the earth with you; from all that go out of the ark, to every beast of the earth.  And I will establish my covenant H1285  with you; neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood; neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth.”
2. Abraham – Genesis 17:2-4 “And I will make my covenant H1285  between me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly. And Abram fell on his face: and YHWH talked with him, saying, As for me, behold, my covenant H1285  is with thee, and thou shalt be a father of many nations.”
3. Moses – Deuteronomy 5:2 “YHWH our Elohim made a covenant H1285 with us in Horeb.”  And Deuteronomy 28 & 29:1 “These are the words of the covenant H1285, which YHWH commanded Moses to make with the children of Israel in the land of Moab, beside the covenant H1285 which he made with them in Horeb.”
4. David – 2 Samuel 7:12-16 and 1 Chronicles 17:11-14 (repeat of 2 Sam 7). Psalm 89:3 “I have made a covenant H1285 with my chosen, I have sworn unto David my servant”
5. Israel – Jeremiah 31:33 “But this shall be the covenant H1285 that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith YHWH, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their Elohim, and they shall be my people.”

This Covenant is not just for the men that were present back then, but for all who wants to join in the covenant in the future. Deuteronomy 29:14 “Neither with you only do I make this covenant and this oath; But with him that standeth here with us this day before YHWH our Elohim, and also with him that is not here with us this day:”  It goes on to say if people don’t keep to the agreement of the covenant, that they will be cut off from the covenant, and then ends with verse 29, “that we may do all the words of this Torah (Laws)”
