Cursed
Deut 27:26 ‘Cursed is he who does not establish the Words of this Torah.’
The Hebrew word for “establish” is QUM H6965 – qûm, which means to Perform, Confirm, Continue, Abide, Stand on. It is interesting to note the word “THIS“, for This Torah, is in Hebrew as well. So for the written Torah taught by Moses. Not later added-on “Torah”. There are other laws promoted especially in the Jewish community today, that they call the Oral Torah – and there they have thousands of extra laws that we don’t read of in Scripture. This is also what Yeshua had confrontations with the Pharisees and Saducees, as they were constantly arguing among themselves about the extra Oral Laws.
Deut 28:46 “And they shall be upon you for a sign and for a wonder, and on your seed, forever.
This is a miraculous punishment. Forever does not mean without redemption. It is forever, and long as the people continue to sin.
Sin means not to keep the Laws of YHWH, the Torah. 1 John 3:4 “Everyone doing sin also does lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness.”
It is interesting to see how much emphasis is on the curses, almost 3 pages long in the Bibles, starting in Deut 27 and ending in Deut 28. Blessings are so simple, but curses really get complicated. Obedience is also really easy, and the Laws are simple, but people tend to make it complicated and add things one to confuse and strain people. In todays’ society, when everything goes well, then all is bliss and YHWH is forgotten. But ironically, when things go wrong, no one stops and asks if it could be because of sin. It has almost become forbidden to believe such a thing.. that the curses and woes on this world is because of sin. We just accept it is the sinful world, and blame it on ha-satan. When there is sickness, we blame him – not ourselves. When we have no rain, we blame the world and ha-satan. When there is plagues, war and loss.. someone else has to be blamed.. not us or our forefathers right? We have somehow taken ourselves completely out of the equation. We don’t have to live by the law, pure lives. We also not to be blamed for all the wrong that comes our way.
When YHWH says, forever (verse 46) – till when would that be?
Deut 28:2 “And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, if you obey the voice of YHWH your Elohim…
His Name
Deut 28:58 to fear this esteemed and awesome Name, YHWH your Elohim
Some translations say in all capital letters, “fearful name, THE LORD THY GOD;” -> that is not His Name. His Name is YHWH thy Elohim.
In these two chapters (27 and 28), His Name appears 50 times! H3068 – Yᵊhōvâ

Prophecy or Curse
Deut 28:
49“YHWH brings a nation against you from afar, from the end of the earth, as swift as the eagle flies, a nation whose language you shall not understand,
68“And YHWH shall bring you back to Mitsrayim in ships, by a way of which I said to you, ‘You are never to see it again.’ And there you shall be sold to your enemies as male and female slaves, but no one to buy.”
A Curse is a prophecy, so is a Blessing. So Chapters 27 and 28 is a continual prophecy. In Chapter 28, verse 49 and 68 is a stark reminder of when the Hebrews were captured twice by a fierce nation, Babylon and the Roman Empire. In Ezekiel 17 there is a prophecy of two eagles. It is suggested the one eagle was Egypt and the second Babylon. However an eagle is a universal symbol for power and leadership.
Some would say the curses were only for the Hebrews or Jews, but YHWH says it is for the strangers, sojourners, and outsiders too. Blessings and Curses, who join themselves to Him. Isaiah 56 from verse 1, “Thus said YHWH, .. Blessed is the man who does this, and the son of man who lays hold on it, guarding the Sabbath lest he profane it, and guarding his hand from doing any evil. And let not the son of the foreigner who has joined himself to YHWH speak, saying, ‘YHWH has certainly separated me from His people,’ Also the sons of the foreigner who join themselves to YHWH, to serve Him, and to love the Name of YHWH, to be His servants, all who guard the Sabbath, and not profane it, and hold fast to My covenant, them I shall bring to My set-apart mountain, and let them rejoice in My house of prayer”. And in Ezekiel 47:22 “And it shall be that you divide it by lot as an inheritance for yourselves, and for the strangers who sojourn in your midst.. they shall be to you as native-born among the children of Yisrael”
