Temptation
Deut 8:3 “fed you with manna which you did not know nor did your fathers know, to make you know that man does not live by bread alone, but by every Word that comes from the mouth of YHWH“
Does this verse sound familiar? When Yeshua said, it is written in the desert to ha-satan… guess where it was written 😊 , yep here in Deuteronomy 8:3.
Let us look the Temptation story in Matthew 4
- Verse 4 “It has been written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of YHWH” – WRITTEN in Deut 8:3
- Verse 7 “It has also been written, ‘You shall not try YHWH your Elohim.’ ” – WRITTEN in Deut 6:16
- Verse 10 “For it has been written, ‘You shall worship YHWH your Elohim, and Him alone you shall serve.’ ” – WRITTEN in Deut 6:13
40 Days and 40 Nights:
Another comparison we can make about the 40 days and 40 nights (Matt 4:2), is where Moses spent 40 days and 40 nights on Mount Sinia for the Laws/Torah/Commands of YHWH on the tablets. In Deuteronomy 9:9 Moses said “When I went up into the mountain to receive the tablets of stone, the tablets of the covenant which YHWH made with you, then I stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights. I did not eat bread nor did I drink water.”
In Deut 8:2-3 Moses explains, suffering in hunger (fasting) is not a bad thing. In this time you are taught His Word, and tested to see if you are paying attention. “And you shall remember that YHWH your Elohim led you all the way these forty years in the wilderness, to humble you, prove you, to know what is in your heart, whether you guard His commands or not. And He humbled you, and let you suffer hunger, and fed you with manna which you did not know nor did your fathers know, to make you know that man does not live by bread alone, but by every Word that comes from the mouth of”
Prepare yourself for those temptation times, fasting in prayer and feeding on/consuming the Word of YHWH – so you can quote it when you need it!
