Love : First and Great Command
Deut 6:5 “And you shall love YHWH your Elohim with all your heart, and with all your being, and with all your might.”
This is the exact verse from Torah that was quoted by Yeshua, repeated 3 times in the new testament: Matthew 22:37, Luke 10:27, Mark 12:29
Matthew 22:
36“Teacher, which is the great command in the Torah?”
37And Yeshua said to him, “ ‘You shall love YHWH your Elohim with all your heart, and with all your being, and with all your mind.’
38“This is the first and great command.
39“And the second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbour as yourself.’
40“On these two commands hang all the Torah and the Prophets.”
Long Life
Deut 5:16 Respect your father and your mother, as YHWH your Elohim has commanded you, so that your days are prolonged
Deut 6:2 so that you fear YHWH your Elohim, to guard all His laws and His commands which I command you, you and your son and your grandson, all the days of your life, and that your days be prolonged.
The Hebrew word for Life is Hay H2416 – ḥay, the root word is HAYA H2421 – ḥāyâ, which means live, save, revive, life, recover, to remain alive, to have life, to live on, to sustain life.
The Hebrew word for Prolonged is ARAK H748 – ‘āraḵ, which means to continue long, to be prolonged or extended.
One cannot follow laws and commands purely for a benefit or reward. In other words, to do the commands of YHWH only so that He can bless you, speaks volumes of what is really in your heart. It should be the other way around, you should want in your heart to follow Him, and even if you do it wrong – He will see your heart and still bless you. Perhaps our lives on earth can be extended for another few years, which is a blessing. But the ultimate blessing, would be to honestly keep His commands and then have your life prolonged into the afterlife! Eternal Life – that is true Prolonged Life.
Doorpost
Deut 6:9 “And you shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.
The Hebrew word for doorpost is MEZUZA H4201 – mᵊzûzâ, meaning doorpost or gatepost
The first time we see this word is with the 10th plague in Egypt, in Exodus 12:7 “And they shall take of the blood, and strike it on the two side posts H4201 and on the upper door post of the houses”
A Jewish tradition started before Yeshua was born, they say around 500 BCE, where they took the Shema (Hear & Do) Prayer – which is Deut 6:4-9, and wrote it down and placed it in a box, which they call the Mezuza (doorpost), and they would place it on their doorposts. I have seen others that just places the words on the doorposts, and even others who literally write them on the doorposts.
One (Echad)
Deut 6:4 “SHEMA, O Yisra’ĕl: YHWH our Elohim, YHWH is one!
The Hebrew word for One is ECHAD H259 – ‘eḥāḏ, which means One, Only, First
We are reminded of this that YHWH is One and Only throughout Scripture:
- Isa 45:18 For thus said YHWH, Creator of the heavens, He is Elohim, Former of earth and its Maker, He established it, He did not create it to be empty, He formed it to be inhabited: “I am YHWH, and there is none else.
- Zech 14:9 And YHWH shall be Sovereign over all the eartha. In that day there shall be one YHWH, and His Name one.
Sign on Head and Hand
Deut 6:6-8 “And these Words which I am commanding you today shall be in your heart, … and shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes.“
For years everybody have been consumed with the “mark of the beast” from Revelations 13, with so many conspiracies and theories on what this mark could be. That we have completely missed the fact that our Creator of Heaven and Earth, YHWH our Father ALSO have a Mark! Once again, the beast, ha-satan is just copying the Creator with his own mark. And remember, ha-satan usually does the OPPOSITE of what YHWH does.
So in Revelations 7 and 22 we read about the redeemed, the servants of YHWH will have the seal of YHWH on their foreheads. And here in Exodus and Deuteronomy we have seen that YHWH says when we DO His Torah (Laws / Commands), we keep the Sabbath and we keep His Feasts – THAT will be the sign on our forehead and hands. So what is the opposite of keeping Sabbath? What is the opposite of keeping His Feasts? What is the opposite of keeping His Torah/Laws? Freedom? A false freedom.
Yeshua says in Matthew 24:4 “And יהושע answering, said to them, “Take heed that no one leads you astray.” – In other words, do not be deceived. A false teachings can sound good, but if it is not 100% in line with YHWH’s commands, it is a beautiful teaching that is just deceiving.
Revelation 22:4 And they shall see His face, and His Name shall be upon their foreheads.
