Open my eyes, that I might behold the marvellous beauty from Your Instructions ~ Psalm 119:18

Ammon & Moab

As for the younger, she also bore a son and called his name Ben-ammi; he is the father of the sons of Ammon to this day
Genesis 19:38

Todays’ scripture just have a lot of “shocking” moments, that is quite hard to digest; which just brings up a whole lot of questions.  It seems like everybody is corrupt!  First you have to deal with the people from Sodom that are just evil. Then Lot who offers his daughters to the men of Sodom.  Lots’ wife didn’t really want to leave Sodom. Lot’s daughters take matters into their own hands with regard to having children.

I think one of the lessons we can take from this, is how your thoughts and actions become corrupt if you spend time among corrupt people.  Sooner or later it will affect you.  You need to separate yourself – yes even if it means you are all alone.  This is why so many prophets just preferred staying outside a city, or wandered the desert.. the corruptness of this world is just too much.  This is probably why, even though Lot escaped to the small town Tso‛ar, with everything that had happened and all the corruption was too much.  He took his daughters to the mountains to escape all the madness.  He was probably ashamed.. after all the riches he had, he was left with nothing.  But that NEVER means it is the end.  And if you think it is, you might take things into your own hands.. like Lots’ daughters.

The two sons they bore, they named Ammon and Moab. In Deuteronomy 23:3 we will see that these two tribes are singled out as ones for God’s people to avoid: “No Ammonite or Moabite or any of their descendants may enter the assembly of the LORD, not even in the tenth generation.”  It seems at the core, certain generations are just corrupt.  BUT, even if you are born into such a generation – guess what – you are not lost.  Because even though we are to avoid such evilness, each person have a choice.  Guess what, Ruth was a Moabites, and she was righteous and lived a good and honest life. From Ruth, King David was born.. and ultimately the Messiah!

There are many examples in scripture, that yes, generational curses are a real thing – but it is absolutely possible from the 1st generation to break free from such curses – by your own choice to be set apart, live a righteous life and serve YHVH with all your heart and soul and mind and strength.

Read Ezekiel 18 ~ Sins of father or son on each other, or on themselves? See YHVH’s response..

Isaac - Laugh

And Abraham called the name of his son who was born to him, whom Sarah bore to him, Isaac.
Genesis 21:3

The name Isaac – or rather YISCHAQ Yischâq – H3446, means to “laugh”.  The root word in Hebrew is H6711 – ṣāḥaq.

Laugh have different meanings – and for Isaac it seemed to have it all! Mock – Joy – Playful.   First Sarah laughed in shock, almost mockingly saying yeah right.. Then her prayers are turned to Joy.  And Isaac seems to have a joyful and playful sense around him – the way he treated Rebekkah his wife, you can see he was a happy chap.. 🙂
