Remnant
From all the people that went to Egypt with Jacob and his sons, there were a total of 70 people (Genesis 46:27 “All the beings of the house of Jacob who went to Mitsrayim/Egypt were seventy.”)
The word remnant can also be : those left, left standing, escaped, remainder, to remain, to survive. We have already seen how YHWH saves the remnant, from Noah to Lot. The key is to seek the truth and seek YHVH with all your heart and soul and mind. If you are going to take this journey lightly and be just mild (not hot or cold) – you are going to just be seen as part of the rest of the crowd. Are you part of the remnant? Are you striving to be and live set apart?
Deu 4:27 And YHWH shall scatter you among the nations, and ye shall be left (H7604) few in number among the heathen, whither the YHWH shall lead you.”
Jer 23:3 “And I will gather the remnant (H7611) of my flock out of all countries whither I have driven them, and will bring them again to their folds; and they shall be fruitful and increase.
Shepherds
In the previous chapter we read that the egyptians didn’t eat with Joseph and his brothers. Now, when Pharaoh learns what they are, he will place them in their own separate part of Egypt, apart from the egyptians. For the egyptians, the hebrews are disgusting, because the egyptians worship the lamb as a god, and the hebrews eat their lambs. To the world, it might seem like such a meek job they have, travelling after the sheep in tents, etc. And how amazing it is, that the Creator of Heaven and Earth sends His Son as the Shepherd, and we are the sheep. To the world we might look like nobodies, and they might even find us disgusting. But that is exactly how and what Yeshua taught, to be the meek and humble one. Not great and mighty. Not like the world, the egyptians and their hundreds of gods, their gold and power. No, these men are just humble shepherds taking care of their sheep.
