Jeremiah 23:2,26-27 “Therefore thus says YHWH Elohim of Israel against the shepherds who feed My people: “You have scattered My flock, driven them away, and not attended to them. Behold, I will attend to you for the evil of your doings… How long will this be in the heart of the prophets who prophesy lies? Indeed they are prophets of the deceit of their own heart who try to make My people forget My name by their dreams which everyone tells his neighbor”

The theme of false prophets have come up a lot recently, and Jeremiah is only getting started. YHWH is really upset about these false teachers, as He is trying to warn His people and save them, but the false prophets are just spreading lies and saying things to keep the leaders and people “happy” – before their impending doom which they are refusing to face. Click here for previous posts on False Prophets, and how to identify them. This is a very serious topic which we shouldn’t take lightly, and a prophet’s job are truly of the highest importance, perhaps even more than the angels.

One thing YHWH says here, these prophets make the people forget YHWH’s name! Does the prophets we listen to, know His Name, proclaim His Name, and obey His commandments? Do they teach the commandments and teach His Name to people? See what Yeshua prays is John 17, “I have manifested Your name to the men whom You have given Me out of the world. They were Yours, You gave them to Me, and they have kept Your word.” Click here for more on previous posts about YHWH’s Name.

Jeremiah 25:11-12 “‘And this whole land shall be a desolation and an astonishment, and these nations shall serve the king of Babylon seventy years. ‘Then it will come to pass, when seventy years are completed, that I will punish the king of Babylon and that nation, the land of the Chaldeans, for their iniquity,’ says YHWH; ‘and I will make it a perpetual desolation.”

Jerusalem and Babylon both have a 70 year related fate!
YHWH tells the people, only 70 years, then Babylon will be destroyed, and Judah will return. Here in Jeremiah we are told of Judah exiled to Babylon, and after 70 years Babylon is destroyed. However they took once again many of the false gods and teachings from Babylon back with them to Jerusalem. Before Babylon was destroyed, we read in Jeremiah 51, verse 6 and 45, “the wall of Babylon shall fall. My people, go out of the midst of her! And let everyone deliver himself from the fierce anger of YHWH”.

Yeshua warned about Jerusalem and the Temple that would fall, in Matthew 24:2, “Do you not see all these things? Assuredly, I say to you, not one stone shall be left here upon another, that shall not be thrown down.”. And in Luke 21:20-24, “But when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then know that its desolation is near.. And they will fall by the edge of the sword, and be led away captive into all nations. And Jerusalem will be trampled by Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled”. In Revelation 18 we read of another Babylon, a spiritual Babylon, “an angel cried mightily with a loud voice, saying, “Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen.. And I heard another voice from heaven saying, “Come out of her, my people, lest you share in her sins, and lest you receive of her plagues.”

Historical proof of the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD comes from multiple sources, including the detailed eyewitness account of the historian Josephus, who documented the Roman siege and destruction of the Second Temple and city. This textual evidence is supported by significant archaeological findings across the city, such as widespread Roman-era destruction layers, collapsed buildings, ash from intense fires, and debris from the Temple Mount.

With regard to the prophecy about Babylon by Jeremiah, YHWH says Babylon will end in total desolation. Click here to read more on a previous post what “forever desolate” looks like in the case of Babylon, Sodom and Gomorrah.
