Redeemer
Job 19:25 “For I know that my Redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth”
The word for redeemer in Hebrew is GAAL H1350 – gā’al, someone who stands in to avenge, revenge, ransom you. We did touch on this word, where Boaz is the redeemer for Ruth, portraying the role of Yeshua (click here to read more from Ruth 1-4)
Death vs Sword
Job 19:29 “Be ye afraid of the sword: for wrath bringeth the punishments of the sword, that ye may know there is a judgment.”
Some translations say, “fear death … punishable by death“. However this is incorrect! The Hebrew word there is Hereb H2719 – ḥereḇ, meaning a sword! This word is first used in the garden of Eden in Genesis 3:24 “So He drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword H2719 which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.” The root word for hereb is harab H2717 – ḥāraḇ, which means to destroy and lay waste, to fight.
It is the sword that executes judgment. So as Job said, be afraid of the Sword. Revelation 1:16, “In His right hand he held seven stars, from his mouth came a sharp two-edged sword, and his face was like the sun shining in full strength.”
The Sword is for judgment – it can destroy or protect.
Psalm 45:3: “Gird your sword on your thigh, O mighty warrior, in your splendor and your majesty!”
Isaiah 49:2: Elohim says, “He has made my mouth like a sharp sword.”
