Snares
Joshua 2:2-3 “and as for you, do not make a covenant with the inhabitants of this land – break down their altars.’ But you have not obeyed My voice. What is this you have done? Therefore I also said, ‘I am not driving them out before you, and they shall be adversaries to you, and their mighty ones shall be a snare to you.’ “
The word snare in Hebrew is MOQES H4170 – môqēš, which also means “a trap”. Continually this word is used with serving other gods, like in Exodus 23:33, “for if thou serve their gods, it will surely be a snare H4170 unto thee.” David uses this word often with people trying to lure or trap him into their godless lives, Psalm 69:22 “Let their table become a snare before them: and that which should have been for their welfare, let it become a trap. H4170“. Proverbs uses this word by the things we say, Proverbs 12:13 “The wicked is snared H4170 by the transgression of his lips“
Weeping
Joshua 2:4-7 “And it came to be, when the Messenger of YHWH spoke these words to all the children of Yisra’ĕl, that the people lifted up their voice and wept. So they called the name of that place Boḵim… And the people served YHWH all the days of Yehoshua, and all the days of the elders who outlived Yehoshua, who had seen all the great works of YHWH which He had done for Yisrael.” Verse 18, “for YHWH had compassion on their groaning because of those who oppressed them and crushed them.”
The name Bokim H1066 – bōḵîm in Hebrew means “weeping“. Another word is “lament“, and we have another book Lamentations in the bible, which in Hebrew they call the book Ekah, which means “how” or “alas”. In Hebrew the book names are given from the first word in Hebrew, so Lamentations 1:1 says, “HOW/ALAS deserted lies the city, once so full of people!” This book is written on the destruction of Jerusalem by Babylon in 586 BC. Later Yeshua says in Matthew 5:4, “Blessed are those who mourn for they shall be comforted.”
All throughout Judges and Kings, we will see this seesaw/teeter-totter happening. All goes well, the next generation forget YHWH, all goes bad, they cry out to Him, He has Grace and Compassion, He saves them, all goes well… the next generation forget YHWH, all goes bad, … so be prepared for the next couple of months of this same routine.
Other gods: Ishtar/Astarte/Easter
Joshua 2:13 “So they forsook YHWH and served Ba‛al and the Ashtoreths.”
The name Ashtoret in Hebrew is H6252 – ʿaštārōṯ, meaning “star“, a goddess of love, fertility and fierce warrior goddess, a major deity in Canaan, and everywhere from Egypt to Babylon to Rome and Greece. She goes by many names, worshipped by different cultures, and still exist today. Her most known name is Ishtar, other familiar names include Inanna, Astarte, queen/lady of heaven, Venus, Isis, Aphrodite, Artemis, Ostara/Oestre/Eostre and Diana. Her most common symbol is the six or eight pointed star, but also includes a woman with wings, a lot of times symbolized with lions or a dove. The tale of Ostara, the ancient Germanic goddess of the spring, transformed a bird into a hare, and the hare responded by laying colored eggs for her festival. Recent archaeological research confirm the worship of Oestre in parts of England and Germany, with the hare as her main symbol. Excuse the pun, but it is quite a “rabbit hole” to go down once you start searching for true history on the word “Easter“.. good luck! But what we can 100% tell you, is that Easter is not Passover. And when you prefer to use the word “Passover” as a celebration, you get rejected by the mainstream festival world..
Jeremiah 7:17-18 “Do you not see what they are doing in the cities of Yehuḏah and in the streets of Yerushalayim? The children are gathering wood, the fathers are lighting the fire, and the women are kneading their dough, to make cakes for the queen/goddess of the heavens, and to pour out drink offerings to other mighty ones, to provoke Me.“
Judges: Othniel, Ehud, Shamgar
OTHNIEL:
Judges 3:9-11 “And when the children of Yisrael cried out to YHWH, YHWH raised up a saviour for the children of Yisrael, who saved them: Othniel son of Qenaz, Kaleb’s younger brother. And the Spirit of YHWH came upon him, and he ruled Yisrael, and went out to battle, and YHWH gave into his hand Kushan-Rish‛athayim sovereign of Aram Naharayim. And his hand prevailed over Kushan-Rish‛athayim, and the land had rest for forty years. “
The Hebrew word for Othniel is H6274 – ʿāṯnî’ēl, which is made of two words, the second word is “El”, for Elohim/God. The entire word means “Lion of El“
EHUD:
Judges 3:15-16 “And when the children of Yisra’ĕl cried out to YHWH, YHWH raised up a saviour for them: Ěhuḏ son of Gĕra, a Binyamite, a man impeded in his right hand. And Ěhuḏ made himself a sword, it was double-edged and a cubit in length, and he girded it under his long robe on his right thigh.”
The Hebrew word for Ehud is H164 – ‘êûḏ, meaning to give thanks, but also means to be undivided and in union.
SHAMGAR
31And after him was Shamgar son of Anath, and he smote six hundred men of the Philistines with an ox goad. And he too saved Yisra’ĕl.
The Hebrew word is Samgar H8044 – šamgar, meaning “sword“.
