Wisdom, Understanding, Great Heart
1 Kings 4:29-34 And Elohim gave Solomon exceeding great wisdom and understanding, and largeness of heart like the sand on the seashore. And Solomon’s wisdom excelled the wisdom of all the men of the East and all the wisdom of Mitsrayim. For he was wiser than all men.. And there came from all peoples, from all the sovereigns of the earth who had heard of his wisdom, to hear the wisdom of Solomon.
According to verse 29, Elohim gave Solomon 3 things:
- Wisdom, H2451 – ḥāḵmâ, meaning a Skill
- Understanding, H8394 – tāḇûn, meaning Intelligence, Discretion with Understanding
- Great Heart, H3966 – mᵊ’ōḏ, meaning empathy, exceeding in feelings for others
What a blessing indeed. Solomon was very famous for his Wisdom, even till today, however it was not HIS wisdom. We have already read in Exodus that YHWH gave people wisdom. This is also the first time Wisdom appeared in Scripture, Exodus 28-36, where they were working on the Tabernacle of YHWH, “And thou shalt speak unto all that are wise hearted, whom I have filled with the spirit of wisdom, H2451 that they may make Aaron’s garments to consecrate him”, “And I have filled him with the spirit of Elohim, in wisdom, H2451 and in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship“, “And all the women whose heart stirred them up in wisdom H2451 spun goats’ hair”
The other places in Scripture that mentions YHWH’s Spirit of Wisdom a lot, is actually in Job as well! 18 Times in Job, like Job 12:12 “With the ancient is wisdom; H2451 and in length of days understanding.”, and Job 33:33 “If not, hearken unto me: hold thy peace, and I shall teach thee wisdom. H2451″
Psalms only have 6 references to Wisdom, but off course Proverbs and Ecclesiastes have a lot!
- Psa 90:12 So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom. H2451
- Psa 111:10 The fear of YHWH is the beginning of wisdom: H2451 a good understanding have all they that do His commandments
- Pro 7:4 Say unto wisdom, H2451 Thou art my sister; and call understanding thy kinswoman:
- Pro 8:11 For wisdom H2451 is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it.
- Pro 28:26 He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool: but whoso walketh wisely, H2451 he shall be delivered.
