Understanding the reasoning and rituals of another culture can be challenging. For the Israelites, some of these instructions—such as the sacrificial rules and rituals—may have been new, while others might have been familiar. They likely passed down certain truths to their children, though these teachings may be difficult for outsiders to grasp. This situation is similar to a father telling his child to stay out of the road. The child may not see or hear the approaching danger and may not understand the reason behind the command. Yet, even without full understanding, the child must trust the father and obey. Likewise, we may not always comprehend divine instructions, but by following them, understanding may eventually come.

Leviticus 14 and 15 mention two birds, cedar wood, red yarn and hyssop sprig. It is guaranteed if you want to go down a rabbit hole and find meaning in these objects, you will likely find it – and you are welcome to do that, and let me know what you discover! Ultimately, remember the words of Yeshua in Matthew 18:2-3 “And Yeshuas called a little child to Him, set him in their midst, and said, “Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become as little children, you shall by no means enter into the reign of the heavens.”

Leviticus 15 provides specific instructions regarding bodily discharges for both men and women, whether normal or abnormal, along with the necessary steps to become “clean.” One key detail of this chapter is that the explanation for these rituals is revealed only at the very end—did you catch it? 😊

The primary purpose of these regulations is to keep the Tabernacle pure and set apart. When entering YHVH’s presence, one is required to be as clean as possible — physically, mentally, and spiritually. In the next chapter we see that on the yearly Day of Atonement, Aaron had to perform a ritual for the Tabernacle itself, because it will occasionally happen that someone “unclean” did indeed enter the Tabernacle. “And he shall make atonement for the Set-apart Place, because of the uncleanness of the children of Yisrael, and because of their transgressions in all their sins. And so he does for the Tent of Meeting which is dwelling with them in the midst of their uncleanness.” Leviticus 16:15-16

Regarding a woman’s menstrual discharge, the Hebrew word used is NIDDAH (H5079 – nidâ), which means “to be removed” or “set apart.” This time/period/place was not intended as a punishment but as a time of separation for purification and renewal. It also provided an opportunity for men to respect and appreciate this set-apart time as a blessing.
