Foods to eat

The entire Chapter 11 of Leviticus is spent on FOOD.
What are you allowed to EAT. What are you allowed to TOUCH, and when can or cannot you touch them.
The chapter concludes by YHVH saying “And you shall be set-apart, for I am set-apart.” This exact same verse is quoted by Yeshua in Matthew 5:48 “Therefore, be perfect, as your Father in the heavens is perfect.” Peter also quotes it in 1 Peter 1:15-16 “instead, as the One who called you is set-apart, so you also should become set-apart in all behavior, because it has been written, “Be set-apart, for I am set-apart.” If at any point Scripture seems to contradict itself, you have to question that. Is this a false prophet? Is the translation correct? Do you read the entire chapter (or even book) in context? But nowhere is YHVHs’ Word to contradict Himself.
YHVH’s VERY FIRST COMMAND / LAW was : Genesis 2:17 “but do not eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for in the day that you eat of it you shall certainly die.” – and the very next chapter it is asked “Did Elohim REALLY SAY…” .. Did He really say we cannot eat this? It is the age old trick up the enemy’s sleeve..
Most of the animals/creatures we are NOT to eat, are regarded as the “vacuum cleaner” creatures. They eat anything, even poop.. rabbits, rodents, primates, and even some carnivores like dogs eat their own or other animals’ feces. These animals also carry a lot of parasites. Parasites are known to have the following effect : increase sexual (even abnormal) activity and lust (like oysters), behavioral changes, affect your appetite, affect your thinking, increase sickness especially transmittable sicknesses. When you go into studying these things, you will find it has to do with a lot of demonic activities.. perhaps that is also why the demons asked Yeshua rather to be cast into the pigs. Did you know, that pig hearts are considered the closest animal hearts to human hearts in terms of size, anatomy, and function.
In Leviticus, we are give 4 Categories of FOOD:
- Beasts / Animals
- ALLOWED – split hoof completely divided and chewing the cud
- Birds
- NOT ALLOWED – all kinds of : vultures, hawks, falcons, ravens, herons, lapwings (like hoopoe)
- ALLOWED – Doves, Pigeons, Quail (was given with the Manna in Exodus), Family of Quail (Poultry like chicken)
- Sea
- ALLOWED – has fins and scales in the waters, in the seas or in the rivers
- Swarming/Winged Insects
- NOT ALLOWED – insects that creep on all fours… (translation says : it should be four or more). Insects have generally 6 legs, but those who appear as if they have 4 could be like a butterfly.
- ALLOWED – If they use their legs to hop on the ground, like locust, cricket or grasshoppers.
Here is a spiritual explanation, and A WAY TO REMEMBER the differences in clean or unclean animals:
- DIVIDED HOOFS : This is a physical traits, in other words what people can SEE. Is the evidence there that our lives are different/seperated from the world?
- CHEWING CUD : This is not always evident to the eyes, but when you talk to someone about Scripture or about our Father, do they re-think and contemplate about Him and His Ways?
Identifying the False 1 -> Those who look perfect on the outside (have divided hoofs), but inside they do not contemplate (chewing cud), for example like the pig.
Identifying the False 2-> Those who can be big talkers and looks like they contemplate the Scriptures constantly (chewing cud), but outside there is no proof in their physical lives to set them apart from the world (divided hoofs), for example the camel.
- SCAVENGERS : these birds look for prey, often inhabited desolate places, often neglect their young (Job 39:13-17). They symbolize cruelty, untrustworthy, scavenging for opportunity and even stealing and killing, representing representing spiritual desolation (Isaiah 13:21).
Clean birds often symbolize purity, peace, divine sacrifice, and spiritual sensitivity. They represent a humble and obedient life. Just for interest, the english translations sometimes mention the “ostrich”, but can also be listed as owls, ravens, etc.. The Hebrew translation for a type of owl or ostrich is Ya’Ana (H3284 – yaʿănâ).
- FINS : the ability to move and make changes. It represents mobility, ambition, and the ability to navigate life’s challenges, going against the stream and masses.
- SCALES : the protective armor, representing integrity and being protected from what life throws at you.
Often those who stay in crowds have to rely on the crowd to protect them and they have no ability to move away from the crowd.
- CRAWLING : representing moving slow and being covered in pollution, hidden sin, or “creeping” habits. They symbolize a spirit of delay, where much effort is put in with little progress.
- JUMPING : represents a sudden move away from the “dust” or ground. It symbolizes sudden, rapid changes, either in destruction or, through restoration, being able to make a quick leap out of a bad situation, always being ready to move. Jumping insects, particularly locusts, are frequently agents of God’s judgment and represent sudden devastation or a “consuming” force.
Man vs. Woman
Leviticus 12 “When a woman has conceived … remains in the blood of her cleansing”
The Hebrew word for Cleansing is TAHORA H2893 – ṭāhŏrâ, and it is the same word for menstruation as well as purifying. When we read the translations, and even among Hebrew readers there is this division on what is pure or impure. It could perhaps just be your point of view, and then one can ask what is in your heart that causes you to think the way you do.
It might seem very confusing and questionable on why sons and daughters are treated differently. I would really encourage you, if you have about 20 minutes, to listen to the following youtube video, on what these 3 men’s’ viewpoint are. It might just answer a lot of questions for you The only thing I might add to this, is remember blood is very special and sacred – and for blood to flow is not an evil/sinful/unholy thing.
Leprosy
Leviticus 13 discusses a skin condition that has traditionally been translated as leprosy. The Hebrew word is TZARA’AT (H6883 – ṣāraʿaṯ / H6879 – ṣāra). This chapter describes various forms of the condition, including white, red, and green discolorations, as well as mildew, which could even affect clothing. The passage outlines how priests were instructed to examine these cases and determine the appropriate course of action. The primary response in biblical times involved isolating the affected individual and removing or burning the contaminated materials.
From all the stories and references we have from Scripture, this disease is clearly a spiritual issue. When a priest confirmed the presence of this affliction, the affected person was required to separate from the community. This period of isolation gives a person time to do inward inspection. Similarly, negative behaviors, such as gossip, can spread like an illness (a highly contagious disease just like leprosy). It is almost a guaranteed fact, that whatever spiritual issues a person has, will manifest physically in the body. This disease, whatever it is, is a great example of doing inspection with the priest (Yeshua is our High Priest today), then take time off and do some inward inspection yourself, and then you go back to the priest to check again – until the symptoms go away.
At the end of the day from these stories, we can learn one thing – HEALING COMES FROM OBEDIENCE. If you don’t do what the priest (Yeshua) tells you to do – and it will be a physical obedience, then cannot be healed.
- Moses in Exodus 4 putting his hand in his cloak to display the disease and then take it away
- Mirriam in Numbers 12 where she and Aaron were gossipping
- Naaman in 2 Kings 5 where he first doesn’t want to listen to instructions, and then finally obeys.
- Yeshua in Matthew 8:1-4 and Mark 1:40-45 instructing a leper to go to the priests
- Yeshua in Luke 17:11-19 instructing 10 lepers to go to the priest, and only 1 returns with praises.
