Fire 1 : Overcome with Joy
Lev 9:24 “and fire came out from before יהוה and consumed the burnt offering and the fat on the altar. And all the people saw and cried aloud and fell on their faces.”
Another “TRANSLATION ISSUE” – a lot of translations say cried or shouted, which one might think is cry or shout in fear. However, the Hebrew word is RINAN H7442 – rānan – and the meaning is Sing for joy, rejoice, shout for joy, shout aloud (in wisdom), overcome.
FIRE OF JOY! This fire was a blessing.
Fire 2 : Strange Fires
Lev 10: “and brought strange fire before יהוה, which He had not commanded them.”
Some translations use unauthorized or profaned fire, instead of strange. The Hebrew word is ZUR H2114 – zûr, which does mean strange, another, loathsome, idolatries, enemy.
We might have read some of the laws so far, and it sounds very boring, or doesn’t make sense. It is like a parent that tells a child not to cross the street. To the child it doesn’t make sense, and the parent does not have to explain every little detail – the secret is in will the child take heart and obey the command, or is he going to question everything. We don’t understand why the “street is unsafe”, but it could save our lives.
One command we do have, is not to add or change or take away from YHVH’s commands. He is also always the same. We might think His laws are boring, so let’s make another day of celebration, or add something interesting to the festival or laws, or even take something out. We THINK we honor YHVH, but to Him it is strange.. a strange fire that He never commanded.
