Cornerstone
Mark 12:10 “Have you not even read this Scripture: ‘The stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone.”
Have you read the old testament Scriptures yet? Go to our “Free Downloads” link, or click here and download the “Read your Bible in 1 Year plan”.
Did you know, the “cornerstone” is mentioned at least three times in the old testament?
- Psalm 118:22 The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone.
- Isaiah 28:16 “Behold, I lay in Zion a stone for a foundation, A tried stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation
- Zechariah 10:4 From Him comes the cornerstone
In ancient buildings the cornerstone would set the foundation and alignment for the entire structure. Yeshua is that stone that gives stability, authority, and guiding principle for all who believe and obey. All other parts of the building — Israel, the apostles, the disciples/followers, prophets and believers — are joined together in Him.
Widows
Mark 12:43 “Assuredly, I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all those who have given to the treasury”
Yeshua showed a deep love for Children, and in our previous post from Mark 10 we explained why Children are so important as an example. The group of people who are mentioned the most in the old testament is Orphans and Widows, and thus it is clear they hold a very special spot in YHWH’s Heart. Holy Spirit
Mark 13:11 “But when they arrest you and deliver you up, do not worry beforehand, or premeditate what you will speak. But whatever is given you in that hour, speak that; for it is not you who speak, but the Holy Spirit“
If one doesn’t read the old testament, and grew up religious, one might make the mistake to think the Holy Spirit was only given after Yeshua went to Heaven. It is assumed the Holy Spirit is a “new concept”, however that couldn’t be further from the Truth. Click here for previous posts on the Holy Spirit, or rather YHWH’s Spirit. As a matter of fact, Isaiah and Revelation talks about 7 Spirits of YHWH. Genesis 1:1 says “YHWH created the Heavens and the earth. Verse 2 then mentions His Spirit, “The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of Elohim was hovering over the face of the waters“
All throughout Scriptures the Spirit is compared to the Wind, as matter of fact in Hebrew the word for Spirit is Ruach H7307 – rûaḥ, meaning wind or breath. Yeshua says in John 3:8 “The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit“
The Spirit is given and taken, as we read in Genesis 2:7, “Then YHWH Elohim formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being”. And in Ecclesiastes 12:7, “Then the dust will return to the earth as it was, and the spirit will return to Elohim who gave it“.
Before Yeshua was crucified, He comforted the disciples that they would not be alone, because He had to leave. In John 14:16-18, Yeshua says, “I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever — the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you”.
