Study Gem : Bread
Numbers 28:2 “Take heed to bring My offering, My food for My offerings made by fire as a sweet fragrance to Me, at their appointed time.” This verse talks about YHWH’s FOOD. I looked at another translation, and the same thing – “They are my food”.
So I looked at the original Hebrew translation – at it says LEHEM H3899 – leḥem, which means BREAD. So it should say to bring the offering and bread with fire. Reading this in english with food versus bread makes a difference in understanding. The direct translation from Hebrew SHOULD READ: “An Offering, bread for sacrifices made by fire, for a sweet savour unto Me, shall ye observe to offer unto Me in their due season.“
Did you know, that Bethlehem means “house of bread”. Beit – house and Lechem – bread.
Study Gem : Chapters and Verses
Some Bible translations have Numbers 29:40 and some have rather moved this verse to Numbers 30:1. It states “And Mosheh spoke to the children of Yisrael according to all YHWH had commanded Mosheh“. Your bible might have a side or bottom note/reference/quote about it. There are disputes like this all through Bible translations, because the Scriptures was never written with Chapters and Verses – but rather as scrolls, and then were stitched together and not always in the timeline order. But the person who read the scroll, would know where they are in the scroll and which scrolls go together.
Now the question is, does this verse go with the previous Chapters about the Offerings, or does this verse go with the next Chapter about Vows? A very famous example is Isaiah 53, which is one of the major points of contention between Jewish and Christian interpreters throughout the centuries. If you look in the Hebrew text, Isaiah 53 actually begins in chapter 52:13, and continues all the way to the end of what’s called chapter 53. Chapters actually affects the interpretation. And sometimes it’s deliberately done that way. That is why you should always read the Scripture with this in mind, and never just take a verse or Chapter for interpretation – but read a few Chapters together, or the entire Book/Letter/Scroll. That is also why it is so important to read the Scriptures from the beginning in Genesis – understand what and why things were done, before you can understand Yeshuas’ teachings or the Apostles’ Letters..
Study Gem : Fathers and Husbands
Numbers 30 talks about a man or woman making a vow of some kind. Verse 2 and 3 “When a man vows a vow to YHWH, or swears an oath to bind himself by some agreement,” and “Or if a woman vows a vow to YHWH, and binds herself by some agreement “.
We have seen in past Scriptures repeatedly warning about making a vow, especially a vow to YHWH or usings His Name, as well as what Yeshua had to say about it. Some might see this Chapter as being prejudice against woman. But that is definitely not the intent – the purpose of YHWH over man, and man over woman is about PROTECTION. Men are for woman as their protectors. It is not about fighting for rights and who is boss. This chapter does not mention that the man has an attitude about it and plays boss over the womans’ words. It is about being one. She might say certain things and there is agreement about it. Or she might make a promise to someone without discussing it with her husband – and her husband does not agree – then how can she continue with a promise her husband does not agree with? So now she has protection, and her husband can go and cancel that promise without her worrying about it. The same for a daughter and her father. Her father is there to protect her, and she can rely on her father for his protection.
This is a picture of our relationship with YHWH. He is our Father. He warns us to be careful with the promises we make. But if we do make certain vows that He does not agree with, and we stand in line with His Torah (Instructions and Laws), then He can protect us if we accept His Authority. You see, it all depends how you view the scenario. Do you see Him as a boss and you are under His Laws unwillingly? Or do you see Him as your Father with love protecting you, and guiding you with His Laws, willingly?
