Cleanse Yourselves
Let’s do a quick recap of Moab and Midyan. In Numbers 22:4 we read “And the elders of Mo’aḇ and the elders of Miḏyan.. sent messengers to Balam son of Beor”. These two companies conspired together against Israel for Balaam to curse Israel. But, since they couldn’t curse what YHWH has blessed, they drew the Israelites away from Torah by seducing them with the Moab and Midyan woman (Numbers 25) – thus removing their protection from YHWH. A plague hit Israel, and in Numbers 25:9 we read 24,000 people died!
Now in Numbers 31 YHWH says to take vengeance on the Midyanites. They come back from the war, bringing back the woman. Remember, a woman raises the children and educates the children. The children learn their mothers’ language and religion. This is why Moses says in Num 31:16 “Look, they are the ones who caused the children of Yisra’ĕl, through the word of Bil‛am, to trespass against YHWH in the matter of Pe‛or, and there was a plague among the congregation of YHWH.“, verse 18 “But keep alive for yourselves all the female children who have not known a man by lying with a man.”
Numbers 33:51-56 YHWH tells Israel when they go into the Promised Land, they must clean out before them, get rid of all the idols, stones, images, high places (offering places and poles). If they don’t, that which remains will be like a prick in their eye and thorn in their side – it will cause trouble in the future.
In Deuteronomy 7:1-6 explains this again for the Israelites – do not intermarry with people who will lead your children astray to other gods!
Today, we are all born into a world of deception. We are born into Egypt or Babylon. But you can choose to leave the old practices and become part of Israel. Once you do, you need to cleanse your life and get rid of all the false worship and teachings in and around you. If we don’t cleanse our lives, those things will seduce us back and just become a thorn in the side.
Water and Fire
Numbers 31:23 “every object that passes through fire, you put through the fire, and it shall be clean; only, let it be cleansed with the water for uncleanness. And whatever does not pass through fire you pass through water.”
Water represents spiritual cleansing, renewal and Ruach Hakodesh (YHWH’s Set-Apart Spirit).
Fire represents judgment and purification.
Water and Fire are the two main elements from Genesis (begins with water) to Revelations (ends with fire). The earth was covered with water, the Spirit (resembling Fire) moved over the waters. During Noah’s time the waters cleansed the earth again. YHWH appeared to Moses in a burning bush. When the Israelites left Egypt, they had to go through the Red Sea – very symbolic. During the day YHWH protected Israel with a cloud (water) and at night with cloud of fire. Daniel and his friends had to go through fire, refusing to worship anyone else but YHWH. John the Baptist said the following in Matthew 3:11, “I indeed immerse you in water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to bear. He shall immerse you in the Set-apart Spirit and fire.”
Peter said the following in 2 Peter 3:5-7, “For they choose to have this hidden from them: that the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of water and in the water, by the Word of Elohim, through which the world at that time was destroyed, being flooded with water. And the present heavens and the earth are treasured up by the same Word, being kept for fire, to a day of judgment and destruction of wicked men.”
The offerings show us a picture, of always including water for cleansing, and fire to burn for fragrances and then the ashes are thrown out. Malachi 3 prophecy the Messiah coming and being a refiner and sifting with fire. Yeshua commanded the disciples in Matthew 28:19 to teach everyone the commandments He gave them, and to baptize them in the Set-apart Spirit. Baptize in water and fire.
Sukkoth
Numbers 33:5 “Then the children of Yisrael departed from Ra‛meses and camped at Sukkoth.” In verse 3 it says they departed on the 15th day of the 1st month, the day after Passover – and they left Ra’meses H7486 – raʿmᵊsēs (in Egypt – meaning “child of the sun”, sun worshippers) to camp at Sukkoth H5523 – sukôṯ, which basically also means camping, or tent/booths.
This is an actual place, which we see in Genesis 33:17 where Jacob made booths and named the place Sukkoth. And not is it only a place, but it is the last Festival of YHWH in the 7th month, a 7 day Festival of Booths/Tabernacle which is called “Sukkoth”.
How interesting is the verse in Numbers 33 – they went straight out of bondage, on the day after Passover (1st Appointed time) to Sukkoth (7th/last Appointed time).
Month and Weekday Names
In Numbers 33 we see a couple of times again times and “dates” mentioned. In verse 3, “on the fifteenth day of the first month”, and in verse 38, “first day of the fifth month”. This is how YHWH works with His Calendar since Genesis. On the first day.. second day.. until the 7th day which is a Sabbath. When it comes to days, months and years – He just sticks to 1st, 2nd, etc..
There are only a few place in Scripture where a name is given to a month, in Hebrew. Since the Israelites went to Babylon later, they brought back with them the Babylonian names for months – which they still use till this day. And that wasn’t the only thing they brought back from Babylon. The Jews still today use some names and keep certain feasts, which they never did before. And they admit to it, they say however using these names and celebrations is a way to remind them that they came out of Babylon. This is exactly the opposite of what YHWH commanded them though.
But it is not just the Jews. Today the whole world is under another calendar system called the Gregorian. Our months and weekdays have been named after other gods as well. This is why it can be so confusing being born into a western system, and keeping track of biblical days and months called only 1st day, 1st month, etc.. Because we were never taught to think that way.
note : Only 4 times in Scripture were Hebrew month names records:
* Aviv (1st month) – Exodus 12:2 and Exodus 13:4. The basic meaning is “Spring”.
* Ziv (2nd month) – 1 Kings 6:1. Meanings : “light,” “glow,” “radiance,” “brightness,” “blooming,” and “sprouting”
* Eitanim (7th month) – 1 Kings 8:2. Meaning “enduring”
* Bul (8th month) – 1 Kings 6:38. Meaning “increase”, “produce”
Here is a quick list of the false gods the Jews use from babylonian times, and the rest of the world use today (roman and norse gods).
note : some of the babylonian names were also recorded in Scripture later on, where Israel was in Babylon (like Nehemiah, Esther and Ezekiel)
