Festival/Pilgrimage Psalms
Psalm 120 – 134 starts with “A Song of degrees“, or some translations say “A song for going up to worship“.
This Going Up, is for the 3 Pilgrimages / Festivals of YHWH every year. The Hebrew word used here is Ma’ala H4609 – maʿălâ, meaning “going up“, like with steps physically, but also spiritually in what is going up in your thoughts! Like telling stories, being reminded of the past and the future prophecies! This word is also used when describes approaching YHWH, or coming to His Throne.
Leviticus 23 is the Chapter (click here to read more on that post), that explains the 3 Festivals of YHWH.
- Feast of Unleavened Bread (held for 7 days) – and in the beginning of the Year (Spring). This is in the period when Passover is held.
- Feast of Harvest (1 day) – held in the middle of the Year (this is the same day as what we know is Pentecost). This is in the period when the Torah was given to Moses.
- Feast of Tabernacles (held for 7 days) – held at the end of the “Year”, which would be the end of summer and beginning of winter. No feasts or celebrations or appointed times are held during winter time (Winter time of the Northern Hemisphere, which is between October and March). This is then the period when one would “tabernacle”, prophetically representing dwelling with YHWH forever.
Psalm of Shalom
In Psalm 122, we see a repeat of the words “Jerusalem, Jerusalem.. Pray for the peace of Jerusalem… Peace Prosperity Peace !”
When you read it in Hebrew – It rathers sounds like a Poem “Yara-Salom Yara-Shalam Salom Yara-Salom Salom Salva Salom!“
Yerusalem : H3389 – yᵊrûšālam / H3390 – yᵊrûšlēm : Jerusalem or Yeru-Shalom is made up of two words – Yara + Shalom
- Yara : H3384 – yārâ : Teach, Shoot, Cast, Pour, Lay, Set, Throw, Instruct, Show, Inform
- Shalom : H7999 – šālam / H7965 – šālôm : Peace, Complete, Wellness, Soundness, Quiet, Tranquil, Content, Friendship, Restore, Reward
The other word also used in this Psalm, which closely relates to Shalom is Salva : H7962 – šalvâ : Quietness, Peace, Ease, Prosperity
