Psalm 119
Interesting facts about Psalm 119:
- Psalm 119 is the longest chapter in the Bible with 176 verses. It has a similar length to some of the Bible’s shorter books like Philippians, James, or Ruth!
- The structure of Psalm 119 is comprised of 22 stanzas (groups/sections). Each starting begins with the Hebrew alphabet letter! Here is the Hebrew Alpabet: Alef, Bet, Gimel, Dalet, Heh, Vav, Zayin, Khet, Tet, Yud, Kaf, Lamed, Mem, Nun, Samekh, Ayin, Peh, Tzadi(k), Qof, Resh, Shin, Tav. The Hebrew alphabet has 22 letters.
- In the Hebrew text, every verse within a section/stanza begins with the Hebrew letter corresponding to that section!
- The entire Psalm is about the Torah (Laws & Instructions of YHWH), and this Psalm doesn’t just teach you the hebrew alphabet, but the alphabet of the spiritual life – which is the Torah.
Torah Psalm!
The Hebrew word for Torah is H8451 – tôrâ, meaning law, direction, instruction, prophetic teaching, instructions with regard to the Messiah, priestly directions. When people hear the word Torah – they think just Laws of Moses. However when the word Torah is used, it is in reference to the Laws, Testimonies/Witness/Proof, Instructions and Judgements given by YHWH Himself.
- The Hebrew word Torah (H8451 – tôrâ) appears 25 times in this Psalm.
- The Hebrew word Testimonies (Eda H5713 – ʿēḏâ) appear 14 times in this Psalm
- The Hebrew word Statute/Laws (H2706 – ḥōq) appear 21 times in this Psalm
- The Hebrew word Judgement (H4941 – mišpāṭ) appear 23 times in this Psalm.
Deuteronomy 4:45 says, “These are the testimonies, and the statutes, and the judgments, which Moses spoke unto the children of Israel”
1 Kings 2:3-4 “And keep the charge of YHWH your Elohim: to walk in His ways, to keep His statutes, His commandments, His judgments, and His testimonies, as it is written in the Law of Moses“

Matthew 5:17-18 “Think not that I am come to destroy the law, G3551 or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, G3551 till all be fulfilled.” The greek word generally used for law or Torah is Nomos G3551 – nomos.
