Babylon
1 Chronicles 9:1 “So all Israel were reckoned by genealogies; and, behold, they were written in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah, who were carried away to Babylon for their transgression.”
How sad that the Genealogies had to be recorded, because Israel and Judah were being dispersed. The Hebrew word for Babylon is actually Babel H894 – bāḇel, which means mixing or confusion. Babylon is a reminder of where all the confusion started, right after Noah and the flood, in Genesis 10 with the Tower of Babel (click here for more on that post). In Genesis 10’s post, the reason why they built the Tower of Babel, were because of Pride and Rebellion. People wanted to make a name for themselves, and forget the name of YHWH. And this is at the root of the problem why Israel and Judah were taken captive, because they rebelled against YHWH and His Torah.
In Revelation 18:4 YHWH says, “Come out of her (Babylon), my people, so that you will not participate in her sins and receive of her plagues.” This verse emphasizes the danger of remaining entangled with the corrupt systems of the world today, represented by Babylon.
Sons of Korah
1 Chronicles 9:19 “Shallum the son of Kore, the son of Ebiasaph, the son of Korah, and his brethren, from his father’s house, the Korahites, were in charge of the work of the service, gatekeepers of the tabernacle. Their fathers had been keepers of the entrance to the camp of YHWH.”
The Hebrew name for Qorah H7141 – qōraḥ, means baldness, or to be made bald. In the Scriptures, Korah was known for leading a rebellion against Moses and Aaron in Numbers 16 (click here to read more on who was Korah, and who was The sons of Korah). While Korah’s rebellion is a key event in Numbers, his descendants, the Korahites, are mentioned in Chronicles, particularly in relation to their roles in temple service. The Korahites were gatekeepers and musicians, demonstrating YHWH’s grace and redemption even after Korah’s transgression.
The presence of the Korahites in temple service highlights YHWH’s ability to redeem and restore even after rebellion. Their roles demonstrate YHWH’s capacity for forgiveness and His continued purpose for His people. Here are the Psalms attributed to the Korahites (Sons of Korah): Psalms (42, 44-49, 84, 85, 87, 88), emphasizing their significant role they played in worship.
