Jabez

1 Chronicles 4:9 “Now Jabez was more honorable than his brothers”

Jabez in Hebrew is Ya-Bes H3258 – yaʿbēṣ, meaning “sorrowful”, but could relate to Bezalel, meaning under the protection of El (Elohim). Although there are only 2 verses in Scripture of Jabez, some Targum (spoken translations of the Hebrew bible) elaborate that Jabez also established a religious institution for the Levite children of Zipporah (Moses’ wife): some were appointed to sing, other to pray, and some had the gift of the Spirit of prophecy.
