John 13:12 “So when He had washed their feet, taken His garments, and sat down again, He said to them, “Do you know what I have done to you?”

Yeshua explains to Peter, that our bodies can be washed and clean, but our feet gets dirty very quickly – and almost always needs washing. It is the part of our bodies that gets neglected the most, and can be hidden from the world. It is the lowest part of our bodies, takes the most beating, we need it to get somewhere, it helps us to balance and walk up straight. It is not like our hands and face that is exposed for the world to see. Our face is just a mask, we can do with just one hand, but we need both feet to make our lives easier.

Yeshua came to show us how we should walk spiritually. But not only is He our Teacher and Guide, but He goes down to take care of our feet. Water, like in the case with baptism, represents spiritual cleansing. Not only do we cleanse ourselves, but we can cleanse each other by love and taking care of each other. Especially when we take on leadership roles, we need to understand the heart of our role is to serve. Not stand with our heads held high, but our head bowed down, looking after other’s feet.

John 14:27 “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”

The Hebrew word for Peace has so much more depth and meaning. Let’s first look at the greek word, G1515 – eirēnē, which means a state of tranquillity and harmony among people. Sounds like the english word meaning as well, basic tranquillity and harmony. The Hebrew word, is well known, the word Shalom H7965 – šālôm. However the meaning of this word is more than peace.. it means also Complete, Wellness, Soundness, Quiet, Tranquil, Content, Friendship, Restore and Reward. When people greet each other with “Shalom!”, they don’t just say “Peace to you”, but they wish you complete wellness, frienship, prosperity and reward.

We see though in Jeremiah, that a false peace is proclaimed, especially near end times, “Peace, peace, when there is no peace“. In Revelation 6:4 we read, “Another horse, fiery red, went out. And it was granted to the one who sat on it to take peace from the earth, and that people should kill one another”. However, Yeshua knew this in advance, and says He brings true peace – a peace that is inside your soul and spirit. Even if the world is in chaos (non-tranquil and no harmony), with wars and famine, “let your heart not be troubled, do not be afraid”. Philippians 4:7, says it beautifully, “And the peace of Elohim, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Yeshua“.

Indeed, it is not a peace that the world can understand, but which only Yeshua can give. Click here for previous posts on the amazing word Shalom.
