Strait / Narrow Way
Luke 13:24 “Strive to enter through the narrow gate, for many, I say to you, will seek to enter and will not be able.”
Back in Judges 16, we read about Samson destroying the two pillars (click here to read more). These pillars represented the world’s “strait” way to “another” world. Here in Luke, and in Matthew 7:13, the translators rather prefer to use the word “narrow” instead of “strait“. And the word should not be confused with the word “Straight”! The greek word used is Stenos G4728 – stenos, which in english is called a “strait“. A strait is a narrow passage of water connecting two seas, in most cases a small enclosed sea or body of water, to pass through the “strait” or entrance to the bigger sea or body of water. An excellent example is the Strait of Gibraltar, click here to few it on google maps.
The question to Yeshua here in Luke 13 was, will only a few be saved? The way to be saved will not be a “straight” path, but a very narrow way (a strait) that not many will find.
