Study Gem : Firstborn
In Numbers 3 the word firstborn is mentions 13 times! Early in Exodus 13 YHWH already said in verse 2, “Set apart to Me all the first-born, the one opening the womb among the children of Yisrael, among man and among beast, it is Mine.” In Exodus 32 we had the golden calf incident, and the Levite tribe stood up and said they will only worship YHWH. So the Levites committed themselves, and they stood in as redeemers for the rest of Israel. Here in Numbers 3 YHWH confirm this, in verse 41 “And you shall take the Lĕwites for Me – I am YHWH – instead of all the first-born among the children of Yisrael“
Why are the Firstborn so important? We even see in Luke 2:23 that Yeshuas’ mother Miryam went and dedicated Yeshua and made her offering, “And when the days of her cleansing according to the Torah of Mosheh were completed, they brought Him to Yerushalayim to present Him to YHWH – as it has been written in the Torah of YHWH, “Every male who opens the womb shall be called set-apart to YHWH”
The extreme significance of the firstborn was displayed as the 10th plague in Egypt. The firstborn represents a physical/spiritual breakthrough, leadership, inheritance, responsibility and special privilege. Yeshua proclaims in Revelation 1:17 & 22:13 “I am the ‘Aleph’ and the ‘Taw’, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last.” As the First-born, He is our Redeemer. Isaiah 35:10 “And the ransomed/redeemed of YHWH shall return and enter Zion with singing, with everlasting joy on their heads. They shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.”
Study Gem : East / Ancient
Numbers 3:38 “And those who were to camp before the Dwelling Place on the east, before the Tent of Meeting, were Mosheh and Aharon, and his sons, guarding the duty of the set-apart place, and the duty of the children of Yisrael.”
The word EAST in Hebrew is QEDEM H6924 – qeḏem, which means eastward, but also ANCIENT, ETERNAL, aforetime, going forward, or old! East have very significant meaning. This is why the entrance to the Tabernacle is on the East side (Exodus 38:13). Yeshua Himself prophecied His Return from the East, in Matthew 24:27 “For as the lightning comes from the east and shines to the west, so also shall the coming of the Son of Adam be”. Also in Zechariah 14:4 it says “And in that day His feet shall stand upon the Mount of Olives, which faces Yerushalayim on the east. And the Mount of Olives shall be split in two, from east to west, a very great valley, and half of the mountain shall move toward the north and half of it toward the south”
Here in Numbers 3:38 we see that Moses and Aaron is placed on the East side, to guard access. Access to the Ancients’ Dwelling Place. Jeremiah 6:16 says, “Thus says YHWH: ‘Stand by the ways and see, and ask for the ancient paths, where the good way is, and walk in it; then you will find rest for your souls.'”
The garden where Adam and Eve was placed was in the EAST side of Eden. When Adam and Eve were told to leave, YHWH place the Cherubims/Angels with flaming sword on the East side of the garden.
This word QEDEM is also mentioned in the following Scriptures, and not as east, but as the meaning old/ancient:
- Job 23:8 Behold, I go forward, H6924 but he is not there; and backward, but I cannot perceive him: / Oh that I were as in months past, H6924 as in the days when God preserved me;
- Psalm 68:33 To him that rideth upon the heavens of heavens, which were of old; H6924 lo, he doth send out his voice, and that a mighty voice.
- Psalm 74:12 For Elohim is my Sovereign from of old, Working deliverance in the midst of the earth.
- Psalm 77:11 I remember the deeds of Yah, For I remember Your wonders of old.
- Proverbs 8:22,23 YHWH possessed me, The beginning of His way, As the first (H6924) of His works of old. I was set up ages ago, at the first, Before the earth ever (H6924) was.
- Lamentations 5:21 Turn us back to You, O YHWH, And let us turn back, Renew our days as of old (H6924).
