Isles / Islands
Psalm 97:1 “YHWH reign! Let the earth rejoice, let the multitude of isles be glad thereof”. Psalm 97 is like a picture that is being painted.. Let the island be joyful, clouds and darkness, foundations, fire, flashes of lightning, earth trembles, mountains melt like wax!
The word isles, or in some translations islands, in Hebrew is ee or i H339 – ‘î, meaning more isle than island. Isles are smaller than islands. And although it does mean island or piece of land, this same word is first used to describe Noah’s descendants after the flood! Genesis 10:5 says, “By these were the isles H339 of the Gentiles divided in their lands; every one after his tongue, after their families, in their nations.” Even Isaiah and Ezekiel mentions these isles. Isaiah 42:10 “Sing unto YHWH a new song, and his praise from the end of the earth, ye that go down to the sea, and all that is therein; the isles, H339 and the inhabitants thereof.” Ezekiel 27:35 “All the inhabitants of the isles H339 shall be astonished at thee, and their kings shall be sore afraid, they shall be troubled in their countenance.”
