Evil
2 Sam 11:27 “But the deed that Dawiḏ had done was evil in the eyes of YHWH.”
Some translations doesn’t say evil, but rather that it “displeased” YHWH. The Hebrew word in the original Scriptures are RA’A H7489 – rāʿaʿ, meaning evil, evildoer, wicked, bad, ill or harmful. To cause sadness, to spoil somethings’ purpose, making something good for nothing, breaking down in pieces. The very first time this word was used in Scripture, of all places, is with Sodom and Gomorrah, where Lot was pleading with the men of Sodom in Genesis 19:7, “And said, I pray you, brethren, do not so wickedly. H7489″
It just makes your stomach turn when you read about this beautiful amazing man called David, and he does something so horrible. He does it in secret and tries to hide it and pretends all is fine, nothing is wrong. It goes to show that all of us are corrupt and can make that mis-step anytime. And even though YHWH says that He will put away this sin (2 Sam 12:13), there must and always will be consequences. Responsibility have to be taken, even though David fasted and prayed and cried.. somehow their must be acceptance and accountability.
Psalm 51 was written by David after this great failure,
Wash me completely from my guilt, And cleanse me from my sin.
For I know my transgressions, And my sin is ever before me.
Against You, You alone, have I sinned, And done evil in Your eyes; That You might be proven right in Your words; Be clear when You judge.
Parables
2 Samuel 12:1 “Then YHWH sent Nathan to Dawiḏ. And he came to him, and said to him, “There were two men in one city, one rich and the other poor.”
A parable is a simple story used to illustrate a moral or spiritual lesson. When you say “parable”, everyone immediately thinks of Yeshua – that was His way of teaching. But He obviously got it from His Father.. as even in the old testament, YHWH sends Nathan to David to talk to him in a parable, and then hit home hard with David realizing the bad rich man in the story was he himself!
Parables, and even real life stories of what we read in the old testament, are a great way of looking at people’s behavior from outside the box. Without accusing you directly, rather read the stories and understand why YHWH does and says certain things. Then we look at ourselves and realize we also made many mistakes and that is why certain things in our life are the way they are.
