Tamar / Palm Tree
2 Sam 14:27 “To Absalom were born three sons, and one daughter whose name was Tamar. She was a woman of beautiful appearance.”
There are three women in Scriptures called Tamar. All three were born in a family of turmoil. From Genesis 38 (click here to read more), Tamar the wife of Judah’s son who were childless and were almost stoned to death, because Judah treated her unfairly. In 2 Samuel 13 we read about David’s daughter Tamar being assaulted by her brother who was consumed with lust. This lead to the death of her brother and division among the family.
Tamar’s name in Hebrew means Palm tree (H8559 – tāmār). A Palm tree (tamar) symbolizes strength, beauty, peace, prosperity and righteousness.
David wrote in Psalm 92:12, “The righteous will flourish like a palm tree (tamar)”.
Even though they have to stand through hardship and endure long periods without water, they provide shade and peace for those around them. Even Yeshua had to endure pain and unfair treatment, but was met with palm tree branches in Jerusalem, John 12:13, “So they took branches of palm trees and went out to meet him”
