Knowledge
Isaiah 5:13 “Therefore my people are gone into captivity, because they have no knowledge“
The Hebrew word for this knowledge is Daath H1847 – daʿaṯ, not just knowledge of “things”, but to have perception, discernment, understanding, wisdom. Click here to see our previous posts on Wisdom. Wisdom takes discipline, and it tests your heart. Hosea also prophesied these words, but explained a bit more where this knowledge comes from, and it is a famous Scripture quoted by many – however everybody quotes only the first half, and ignores the second important words! Hosea 4:6 “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: H1847 because thou hast rejected knowledge, H1847 I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law (Torah) of thy Elohim, I will also forget thy children.”
Today it is being taught that the Torah (laws of YHWH) is not valid anymore, but this knowledge that will save you comes from the Torah. It is even taught that the laws are bad, and having no laws are good. See what Isaiah prophesied in Isaiah 5:20 “Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; Who put darkness for light, and light for darkness;”
Seraphim, Translation Issues
Isaiah 6:2 “Above it stood seraphim; each one had six wings: with two he covered his face, with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. 3And one cried to another and said: “Holy, holy, holy is YHWH of hosts; The whole earth is full of His glory!”
The Hebrew word for Seraphim is Sarap H8314 – śārāp̄, meaning fire or the fiery ones. The Hebrew translations made a mistake again here, as they will show it means “serpent, or fiery serpent” from the story of Numbers 21 where the serpents attacked Israel, and Moses made the copper snake pole (click here to read more on those Hebrew explanantions).
However when you read the Hebrew Bible, it tells of the “Sarap Nahas“. Nahas means snake, and Sarap is the fiery or burning ones. Which means the snakes bite cause burning like fire. Numbers 21:8 says, “And YHWH said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, H8314 and set it upon a pole”, which means the “copper” resembled the “fire”, so he made a copper/fire serpent.
The word Seraphim describes these beings, that they are on fire, the fiery ones.
Words, Mouth
Isaiah 6:4-7 “And the posts of the door moved at the voice of him that cried, and the house was filled with smoke. Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, YHWH of hosts. Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar, And he laid it upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged.”
In these 3 verses, there are great emphasis on Words, Sound or Mouth. Where Isaiah has this great revelation, that he is doomed because of his lips! Our iniquities are on our lips, and because we live among people with unclean words. While the words from YHWH, and the Seraphims crying (sound) Holy Holy Holy to YHWH, everything shook! What Isaiah heard and experienced shock him to the core! The Seraphim (meaning those on fire), took a coal from the altar, and touched Isaiah’s lips so he could cleansed.
Here are the Hebrew words and their meanings from these couple of verses:
- Qol H6963 – qôl : voice, thunder, sound
- Qara H7121 – qārā‘ : crying, calling, proclamation
- Amar H559 – ‘āmar : said, utter, command
- Sapa H8193 – śāp̄â : lips, language, speech, border
- Pe H6310 – pê : mouth, commandment
Immanuel Prophecy
Isaiah 7:14 “So Adonay Himself will give you this sign: A virgin will become pregnant and give birth to a son, and she will name him Immanuel“
The Hebrew word for Immanuel is H6005 – ʿimmānû’ēl, meaning Elohim is with us, which is from two words : Im (H5973 – ʿim) meaning “with“, and El (H410 – ‘ēl) meaning God, which is a shorter form of Elohim. The greek word for Immanuel is G1694 – emmanouēl, from Matthew 1:20-24, “the angel of YHWH appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Yeshua: for he shall save his people from their sins. Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of YHWH by the prophet, saying, Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, El with us. Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of YHWH had bidden him, and took unto him his wife”
Good and Evil
Isaiah 7:15 “He will understand how to reject evil and choose good“
The are three words here that references right back to the garden of Eden, where mankinds’ fall happened, in Genesis 2:17, “But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.” This verse in Isaiah 7:15 is the exact thing prophesied for Yeshua, He will have the knowledge of good and evil, and He will choose good.
The three words are:
- Knowledge – Daat H1847 – daʿaṯ / Yada H3045 – yāḏaʿ, meaning to know, perceive, understand and discernment.
- Good – Tov H2896 – ṭôḇ, meaning goodness, welfare, moral goodness, happiness
- Evil – Ra H7451 – raʿ meaning evil, wickedness, mischief, affliction, disagreeable, unkind, unhappy
Prophecies and Parables
Isaiah 7:15 “He will eat cheese and honey”
Prophecies and Parables are basically a language on it’s own. It is the language in which YHWH and Yeshua speaks. It can be very confusing, and the disciples even asked about this in Matthew 13:10, where they ask, “Why do you speak to the people in parables?”. Yeshua answered, “Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given. For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath. Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand. And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive: For this people’s heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them. But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear. For verily I say unto you, That many prophets and righteous men have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them.”
This prophecy that Yeshua speaks of is in Isaiah 6:9-10, “Hear ye indeed, but understand not; and see ye indeed, but perceive not. Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and convert, and be healed.”
Prophecy of Isaiah 7 explained
Isaiah 7:15-25 “He will eat cheese and honey … flies and bees.. shaving.. cows.. thorns.. ox and sheep”
Isaiah 7 prophesies that before the Messiah would come, the two countries who threaten Judah (Israel and Assyria), will not succeed, but they will be humiliated, and their lands left desolate. This story can be read in 2 Kings 16 and 2 Chronicles 28.
Here is a quick breakdown and basic explanation of the prophecy of Isaiah 7:
- Cheese and Honey : (v14) The Hebrew word for cheese can mean curds or butter as well. He will grow up being provided and sustained with simple, nourishing food. Growing up in simple humility with good nutrition like butter, cheese and honey teaches to recognize good from evil, and learn how to reject evil, and choose good.
- Ephraim breaks from Judah : (v17) This references the time after David and Solomon, when Ephraim (the ten tribes from the Northern Kingdom of Israel) broke away from Judah. This can be read from 1 Kings 12.
- Flies and Bees : (v18) The fly symbolize Egypt and the bee Assyria, both who would attack Judah. The swarm-like nature of these powerful armies, their irritating and painful impact, ultimately bring devastation to the land.
- Shaving : (v20) Shaving resembles humiliation and defeat. It resembles cutting off the old and starting fresh. Uncut hair resembles dedication, like in the example with Samson in Judges 16 (click here to read more), or when taking a vow like a Nazarite (example from Numbers 6, click here to read more).
- Cow and Sheep : (v21) All that is left is a young cow and two sheep, which signifies the devastating poverty and depopulation, leaving only a minimal number of animals for survival.
- Cheese and Honey : (v22-23) The diminished livestock suggests a scarcity of the young, allowing for an abundance of milk.
- Briars and Thorns : (v23-25) What was once a cultivated land will become an untamed wilderness, allowing briers and thorns to overtake the fertile soil.
- Ox and sheep : (v25) Where there used to be farmers with livestock, there will only be herding and free ranging grazing, allowing animals and land to return to a primitive state.
