Seven Spirits of YHWH
Isaiah 11:2 “And the spirit of YHWH shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of YHWH“
The verse before this one, starts with the prophecy of Yeshua, “a shoot will come out from the stump of Jesse” – this is the Father of King David. Interestingly the Hebrew name for Jesse is H3448 – yišay, from the root word H3426 – yēš, which is the first half of the name of Yeshua. The meaning of Yessay or Yes is “being, existence, substance, there is” or to possess.
These seven Spirits are also mentioned in Revelation 3:1, “These things says He that has the seven Spirits of YHWH, and the seven stars” – referring to Him who is Yeshua.
Here are the Hebrew words for each one:
- Spirit of YHWH – RUACH of YHWH : H7307 – rûaḥ; H3068 – Yᵊhōvâ. Read more from Psalm 63 where we explain the difference between body, soul and spirit – also the Spirit of YHWH.
- the Spirit of Wisdom – RUACH of HAKMA : H2451 – ḥāḵmâ. Read more from 1 Kings 4 where Solomon receives the Spirit of Hakma/Wisdom. It borders more on a “Skill”
- the Spirit of Understanding – RUACH of BINA : H998 – bînâ. This word means to have understanding and discernment
- the Spirit of Counsel – RUACH of ESA : H6098 – ʿēṣâ. The word means advice or purpose. Psalm 1 mentions this word as to caution with whom you spend your time with, and who gives you counsel.
- the Spirit of Might – RUACH of GEBURA : H1369 – gᵊḇûrâ. This word means mighty, strength, power, valour, bravery
- the Spirit of Knowledge – RUACH of DA’AT : H1847 – daʿaṯ. Read more from Isaiah 5 and explanation on Knowledge
- the Spirit of the Fear of YHWH – RUACH of YIRA of YHWH : H3374 – yir’â. Read more from Psalm 36 and explanation on Fear of YHWH
Wolf or Lion Conspiracy
Isaiah 11:6-9 “The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them.”
Have you ever heard of the saying “and the Lion shall lie down with the Lamb“? Just google a picture of it, and you will see there are thousands! But somehow, if you look for a verse in the bible for the Lion and the Lamb lying together, you will not find it. This has caused some great confusion, and there are even studies done on this topic. The verse that people will quote for this Lion and Lamb, is Isaiah 11:6, however every Bible, even the original Hebrew Bible says “The wolf will dwell with the lamb“. We cannot be sure which one it is really suppose to be, I just thought I throw it in for food for thought.
What I have seen though, is an explanation that this verse prophesies that the wolf and lamb represents the old and new testament, which is just ridiculous. Also that the Jews are the lambs and the gentiles the wolves, which also does not make sense. One should be weary of the teachings of “wolves”, that is for sure. Yeshua Himself warned us of this in Matthew 7:15, “Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.”
When it comes to the lamb, the Lamb, or sheep – I think we can all agree that this is reference to Yeshua the Shepherd and those who follow Him are His sheep. Yeshua Himself are a lot depicted as the Lion, which is read in Revelation 5:5 as “Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah”.
The Hebrew word for Wolf is H2061 – zᵊ’ēḇ. We see the tribe of Benjamin are compared to a Wolf, in Genesis 49:27, “Benjamin shall ravin as a wolf: H2061 in the morning he shall devour the prey, and at night he shall divide the spoil.” Interestingly, both the tribes of Benjamin (wolf) and Judah (lion) became one after the split of the Kingdom North and South, and they together became known as Judah – from which Yeshua was born.
There are other Scriptures that does mention some of these animals together as well, like Jeremiah 5:6, “Wherefore a lion out of the forest shall slay them, and a wolf H2061 of the evenings shall spoil them, a leopard shall watch over their cities”. Zephaniah 3:3 “Her princes within her are roaring lions; her judges are evening wolves; H2061″. And Isaiah 65:25 “The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, and the lion shall eat straw like the bullock: and dust shall be the serpent’s meat. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain, saith YHWH.”
A few chapters earlier, in Isaiah 8:12 we read, “Don’t say that everything these people call a conspiracy is a conspiracy: Don’t fear what they fear. Don’t let it terrify you.” We all love a good conspiracy, and today the world is full of them! We cannot trust what we are taught in schools, by our doctors or by governments. But verse 13 reminds us, “Remember YHWH Tsebaoth is Holy, He is the one you should fear and the one you should be terrified of. He will be a place of safety to you”. Whether Isaiah 11:6 should say Wolf or Lion, or whether bibles are mistranslated on purpose or not, it does not help we get angry, fear or doubt. We can only put our trust in One, His Name is YHWH!
