Proverbs 15:15 “But gladness of heart is a continual feast.”

Have you noticed so far the continuing references to food in Proverbs? Chapter 15 verse 17 says, “Better is a meal of vegetables where love is, Than a fatted calf with hatred.” Another translation says, “it is better than juicy steaks where there is hate“!

  • Proverbs 12:27 “The lazy catch no food to cook”
  • Proverbs 16:24 “Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.”
  • Proverbs 17:1 “Better is a dry morsel with quietness, Than a house full of feasting but with strife.”
  • Proverbs 19:15 “Laziness brings on deep sleep, and an idle soul will suffer hunger”
  • Proverbs 19:24 “Some people are too lazy to put food in their own mouths.”
  • Proverbs 22:9 “He who has a generous eye will be blessed, For he gives of his bread to the poor.”
  • Proverbs 23:2 “When you sit down to eat with a ruler, Consider carefully what is before you; For when he put a knife to your throat and you are a man given to appetite. Do not desire his delicacies, For they are deceptive food.”
  • Proverbs 23:20 “Be not among heavy drinkers of wine Or with gluttonous eaters of meat”
  • Proverbs 25:16 “Have you found honey? Eat only as much as you need, Lest you be filled with it and vomit.”
  • Proverb 25:27 “It is not good to eat much honey; So to seek one’s own glory is not glory.”
  • Proverbs 27:7 “A satisfied soul loathes the honeycomb, But to a hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet.”

From the word feast in Proverbs 15 verse 15, the Hebrew word is Miste H4960 – mištê, also meaning to banquet. This word is first used where Abraham wanted to entertain and serve the angels, or visitors he had in Genesis 19:3, “And he pressed upon them greatly; and they turned in unto him, and entered into his house; and he made them a feast, H4960 and did bake unleavened bread, and they did eat.” We see that even the angels eat, and David says in Psalms that the manna that YHWH provided to Israel in the desert for 40 years, is the food from heaven – angels food! Even Psalm 78:24 “And had rained down manna upon them to eat, and had given them of the corn of heaven. Man did eat angels’ food”

Food have a great impact and meaning on the body and soul. We feast when we are happy, we eat to get strength, and we go on food strikes when we are not happy. Food also is a command and greatly part of the 7 Yearly Appointed Times of YHWH (read from Leviticus 23, click here to read more). Pesach/Passover with the lamb, FEAST of unleavened bread, day of wave offerings of first harvests, FEAST of harvests, joyful celebration day of Trumpets, somber day of atonement – mostly without food so to “afflict your souls”, and FEAST of Tabernacles!

Back in Deuteronomy 28 (click here to read more), it outlines a series of curses that are a direct result from not following YHWH’s commandments. This includes various diseases and afflictions, versus the blessings promised for following YHWH’s Torah Way. Specific sicknesses mentioned in Deuteronomy 28 includes wasting disease, fever, inflammation, severe burning fever, consumption, boils, tumors, skin diseases, and madness.
